in about a week and a half i'll be going to a fish convention here in washington and i plan on buying my first beta, ive had experience caring for fish in both a 40(ish) gallon tank and an 6(ish) gallon tank. i plan on using the 8ish gallon tank for the beta but i need some help

does anyone have any suggestions on the types of plants, gravel, filters, food, setup, heaters i should be using

also, what types of fish would make good tank company for the beta, i figure that by having the size of tank that i do it would be nice to have more then 1 fish

all input is apprectiated, thanks

For plants start with some Java Fern and some Java Moss.
For gravel gets ones that are round very small pebbles so that food doesn't fall into the crevices.
For filter get a cheap HOB with flow control since it's easer to service than internal ones. Also it doesn't heat the water like internal ones.
For food, Hikari bio gold, Tetramin tropical granules, Tetra freeze dried bloodworms
Heater go with a 25W plastic Visitherm Stealth. You can get it for like $16 at certain places.
