My Filter Came How Do I Set It Up

i wanna take my jewelone out so what do i do with the sponges ect

Check the instruction manual or the manufacturer's website. Normally course to fine in terms of water flow with the bio material somewhere close to the exit from the filter.

k im setting it up now the only thing i need to know is . do i just take the jewel one out and just start the new one or do i need to put some of the sponge of the jewel in with it ?

If the juwel filter hasnt been working for the past day or two then the sponges bacteria will be dead by now. The sponges in the filter wont be worth saving.
If you want to take the juwel filter out then you can keep it altogether and then try and sell it as a whole unit with sponges. You never know someone might want it.
You might get a tenner for it?

If the juwel filter is still working, leave it in the tank for 2-3 weeks, and run it along side the new one so that it can build up the bacteria.

I did this with mine and it worked a treat.. no water chemistry hiccups...!!

Careful taking the old one out though.. i used one of those snappable blade things, but mine was a little small and feeble and snapped into my finger... and when blood mixes with water it looks far worse than it is too..

hi, its hard to advise someone about setting up a filter. the instructions are a bit daunting. do you know anyone who keeps fish and has experience with these filters who could help you. just be careful before you go cutting any pipes or anything. if i lived close to you i would pop round and help

thanks im in rochdale .. i set it up from new then read that u need the old bacteria from the old filter so i cut some up and replaced it ... ive sorted it now i hope! ill do another test in the next 24 hour ! thanks for the reply and everything ... all i want is a nice healthy tank for my fish friend

i used a new blade from my work knife worked a treat u cant see the top black silicone just a bit at the bottom but the plants cover them .. i got a black backgroung today it looks good with it on !

thats what i would have done... cut up the old sponge and use it in the new filter... then over a few weeks replace the spong with the eheim media
