One of older Female Guppies has Dropsy.....she is bloated and her scales look like a pinecone from the front and rear!

Is there anything I can do for her?

I have isolated her in the 4ft tank in a breeder trap with the divider taken out until I know what to do for the best......

if you can put her in a seperate container.. you could try to medicate her.. but if her whole body is already pineconed (i take it she isnt moving arround much) it's probably not going to do much for her

She is in a breeder trap in the main tank as my plan to get a hospital tank fell through so now have no spare tanks.

I have 3 tanks in total up to now:

4FT 150 Litre - Community Tank

Hex 35 Litre - Betta Tank

25 Litre Fry Tank

So nowhere for her to go, she is swimming around in there, but not sure what to do for her, she has come from my Dad's tank and didn't notice till I got her home last night, she was 1 of my fry that I bred but Dad donated some Females back to me for my new Cobra Guppy Males I just got.

I seem to be having no end of probs with my 4 footer ATM!

well you could put her in a bowl of some sort.. tupperware works.. if you can fit it into the tank.. like sit it at the top, and close the lid.. that will keep her warm but seprate her from the other fishe's water so you dont get more problems.. you probly shouldent treat her unless you can do the math to figure out how to treat such a small amount of water

Anti internal bacteria med by interpet.
Bot once scales stick out organ failure and fish never really survive once scales stick out.

You can also try some epsom salt, one teaspoon per 10 gallons, increase by a teaspoon daily for a maximum of 3 teaspoons per 10 gallons. This is a long term bath, meaning you can use it with antibiotics or other medications. For a short term try a couple of teaspoons in a gallon, keep an eye out for any signs of distress. This would be a 5-10 minute bath.

Epsom salt reduces fluid buildup by changing osmotic pressure. Dropsy, especially when there is pineconing is related to internal organ failure, usually a bacterial issue. From my experiences, with a combination of the epsom salt, and a couple of antibiotics that take care of gram+ & gram- bacteria the success rate is about 50%.

Have added Anti internal bacteria......fingers crossed will dose again if she still with us in 4 days time.

:(

I have a box of Tonic salts from LFS but can't add as I have Clown Loach and a Plec in the tank so not a good idea!

Does the tonic salt say it treats bloating.
I wouldn't add it to main tank with plecs and clown loaches.

Tonic salt is different from epsom salt in most cases. What is normally sold as tonic salt is sodium chloride, epsom salt is magnesium sulfate. I've used it with scaleless fish before, I do like to add it gradually though, as it will increase water hardness.
