Whatever you do, please be careful with any products you use around your tank. Sprays can become airborne and settle on the surface of the water resulting in poisoned fish. Other types of products can come off the surface onto your hands and onto their food, etc.
I don't have a dog but my cat won't drink out of a dish; she drinks out of my tanks. To do this she puts her paw in the water and licks the water out of her fur. Then she climbs down with wet paws and tracks water down the front of the tanks. I'm forever wiping the hard water marks off of them.
