So, I've had my Sori now for a while, and his finrot is finally leveling out and beginning to go away.... aaand, my family has also brought me my old 10 gallon tank, along with all the accessories I used to have for it....

The only problem is, now I'm used to having Sori rest right next to my head at night, when I'm trying to sleep. I'm sort of used to looking at him at night, now, and he swims and swims and swims against the glass like he can't imagine *why* he can't escape and check out the rest of the house.

I'd feel silly for having my family tote my old tank to me, along with its large stand, for nothing. But if he gets moved to the 10 gallon (with, oh, a couple ADFs, maybe?), he'd be a good 2 feet above where he used to sleep, and I won't be able to nod off while watching him dart around....however, I maintain that Sori would be happier in a larger tank (he's in a 2.5 gallon).... and tick-tock, I don't want him moved, but I think he'd be happier somewhere else, but I'm not sure that blah blah blah...

I guess I could fill the tank with something else, like neons or minnows... or something that a beginner could maintain with relative ease....But I also don't really want another tank in my room... It's kind of nice with just me and Sori, you know?

I'm in a bit of a bind. ><

I don't think my old filter would still work, after all these years, and if it did, I don't think that Sori would like it (it's a box filter).... huh........

I should toss a coin, maybe?

I think if he's doing well in the tank he's in now he should stay there. It seems a lot of people have had problems upgrading thier betta to a bigger home, and I'd hate to see that happen to another one.

If you're used to him being there, then chances are he's used to you being there too. I know it sounds wierd, but eh...

*EDIT* Also, if he's wrapping up his finrot issue, then it would probably be best to just let him rest for a little while instead of moving him somewhere he's not used to.

Well, I see what you're saying  You could always set up the tank in your chosen spot and do a fishless cycle with some pure ammonia. It won't be ready for fish for a couple of weeks anyway, so you'll get to look at the tank for a bit and decide whether or not you want to use it/keep it/move Sori etc..
Maybe browse your lfs and check out some small shell dwelling cichlids or something interesting to keep in the 10,you'll have plenty of time to research and plan a nice tank.

Yeah, I was (at the very least) not going to plunk the kid in immediately. -_- Ehn, ah well. I suppose I'll figure something out. I agree that I shouldn't move him for a while, especially since he's just now recovering from fin rot -- which he's had since the moment I bought him. It got worse before it got better.

It just seems that a fish with his energy, needs more places to roam, or at least, investigate....

I'd have to say - leave him right where he is.
He seems completely happy - so he more than likely is. I had a bad experience and lost one of my favorite (and very first!) bettas boys because I thought he'd like to be in a bigger tank.

you COULD always fill up the tank, cycle it, divide it and get 2 NEW boys. :hyper:
OR... you could fill it up, cycle it and then get some pretty little betta girls?

Just my 2 cents worth.
:)
