My cycle is nearly complete, this is the first time I have kept tropical fish, I was lucky enough to have found this site and learn about the fishless cycle, but now I have come to the next problem and learning curve, what fish to get ????

I want to have plants and am going to do what Tizer has done and order 20 assorted easy to care for plants (not all for this tank)
from last-trading-post on ebay (thanks Tizer!!)

Right, my tank is bow front 105 litre

Length=60cm
Width= 40cm
Height=45cm
PH is 7.3
according to our water company report our KH is 315 (22 degrees clarke ?????) (3.2 mili-mols/ litre mmol/l ???) so Hard water.
37 ppm nitrAte from the tap

I went to our local fish shop and these are the fish I liked the look of:
scissor tails
guppies (blue)
praecox rainbows
paradise fish
Zebra Danio
Lace Gourami
indian giant gourami
green tiger barbs
Serpae
gold panchax
botia kubotia
kribensis
siamese flying fox

This is a list of what I liked, please can you recommend which ones will go together and how many would be best if they need to be in a group also recommend other kinds of fish.
I also have another 100 litre tank that is cycling, so I will need to stock that soon too, the guy from LFS gave me some gunk from their filter system to speed this filters cycle up.
Thanks very much in advance, I am sure by doing this I will be able to learn to know which fish are ok with others, all your help is very much appreciated (in fact I don't know what I would have done without this site)

I wouldnt add the tiger barbs as they get very nippy. Guppies are nice i love them if you want to breed them you will need more females than males the ratio is 1:2. If you get the zebra danios get at least 6 as they need to be in a group and a big tank like yours. If you really like the the green tiger barbs dont get anything else, and you could get a big amount of them. The serpae need to be in a big group to about 8. I dont know that much about the rest so i would do this if it was me:

- 4 guppies
- 8 serpae
- 6 zebras

And some paradise

Paradise fish can be aggressive... Males can't be kept together as they will fight. Females can be kept together. I had a single male that wasn't aggressive. He was in a 140 litre with a bristlenose plec, 2 kribensis cichlids and a group of 5 Odessa barbs. I had to rehome the barbs though as at the time I didn't realise they needed a bigger tank due to how active they are. Paradise fish can be kept with larger tetras and in some cases iv seen them kept with less aggressive cichlids like Firemouths although 105 litres is not enough for Firemouths

Iv also heard that paradise fish may fight with gouramis as well because of the similarity... Someone may give you a definite answer on this

I think danios need tanks of around 3 or 4 foot in length. Again not due to their size but because they are so active.

Only ones on your new list that iv had experience with is the kribs so unfortunately i can't comment on the rest. I'm sure there are others members on here that could give you advice on them though :)
