About the Tank
This tank started life about a year ago as my first tropical tank holding a Betta, 3 Corys and some Anamo shrimp, these have all moved into my new 48 Gal tank that I am slowly stocking up and the tank now homes my Crystal Red Shrimp.

Tank Setup
The tank is approx 7/8 Gallons. It is a rectangular tank with the front corners cut off. The substate is Black Roman Gravel. The heater is set to 23/24 degrees and it has an Elite Stingray 10 internal filter. Decoration is a piece of mopani wood and a half coconut shell. One of the Java ferns is held in an old shell that i kept in a goldfish tank when i was younger. It doesn't seem to affect the PH which is steady at 7.5

Livestock
Crystal Red Shrimp and Malaysian Trumpet Snails.

Plants
I am certain i've got Java Fern and Anubias Bateri var Nana, The other plants were unlabeled from a couple of LFS but i think they are Egeria densa in the middle and a couple of Limnophila speices, one either side. The tank is very low tech. There is no CO2, no Ferts and only 14W lighting 12 hours a day. Everything is growing well (all the Java fern is from 2 small plants i got on ebay) at the moment and i've never had an algae issue in the tank. The tank originally had a Aponogeton ulvaceus growing really well in it but this is currently sitting in a pot of wet sand going through a dormant period. It will probably go into the big tank some time this month.

Love the shrimp tank. I would love a set-up like that. A friend of mine given me this monster shrimp and not really thinking about it, I put it in a tank with a 6inch clown loach.

I'm jealous, nice set-up but no point in asking my gf to let me have another tank.

She wont mind too much! They are fascinating to watch, checking everywhere for algae to eat leaving no spot in the tank uncovered. They do swim about occasionally which is funny to see, they sort of swim like a helicopter flys but i doubt i will be able to get a photo of that with my slow camera. They will go crazy for a couple of hours every now and again when they are feeling frisky. :hey:  Chasing each other round the tank until the deed is done  I think they were breeding earlier today so fingers crossed i will be seeing baby shrimp soon.

If my tank inspires anybody else to get some shrimp then I'm honored.

Yeah they look really cool. I think she would like them but it's a case of room for them and money at the moment because the house is under-going a new look and I have 3 tanks on the go. Once this place is finished and I sell it, I will get a big place and make a fish room I think.. I will deffinately get myself a shrimp tank.

looks cool, im currently battling algae in my "to be" shrimp tank, are those are B grade or A grade?

alex

I got them ungraded from an LFS, looking at grading pictures i think most of them are B, there is 1 or 2 that may be A grade but I can never get a good picture of those ones!

How do you know whether they are B or A and whats the difference.

Collectors have given the shrimp a grade based on how good the red and white stripes are. The Grades from lowest to highest are C, B, A, S, SS, SSS. I've seen SSS shrimp for sale for hundreds of pounds online, mine were a bargain by comparison at £3 each.

The pictures on this link explains the grades better than I can: Planet Inverts Grading Guide.

I have eggs! :hyper: I thought they were trying to breed yesterday so it looks like I was right.
