My Cichlid Ready For Breeding?

One of my cichlids roughly 5-6cm had a few mm of tube sticking out from below and it was out for a while. I have just got back in to cichlids and the only breeding ive ever had is from convicts and kenyi cichlids. Just curious to know if thats a sign that its ready to lay eggs or already has done? Also the tube was quite long is that a sign it is a male as from what I remember if correct the females generally have a smaller breeding tube?

I would be interested in any replies. I think we have the same type of cichlid. I don't know the common name or scientific name! I think mine are slightly smaller though.
