Hi there

I was wondering if anyone could help me with some advice on how to look after frogs??? My cat brought me a present yesterday morning....a Striped Marsh Frog!! He/She is very beautiful and my partner and I currently have our new friend in what was previously our quarantine tank for our fishies... Any advice would be great.

Cheers

Yeah Just let it go. I've lost count how many live animals my cats have brought me. Frogs, skinks, bunnys, birds, and ect. If they are alive I catch the cat and let what ever they have caught run off on there own.

My cat was gone literally a minuet and came back with a chipmunk once :hyper: .

dont know about that species... but, it should have a tank long enough and tall enough to jump back and forth in without bumping its head or smacking into a wall lol. i would recommend setting up something very similar to a turtle tank. basically it needs land if it is a frog that like to swim, then of course it will need a good deal of swimming room. i would say maybe 25% land 75% water. an in-aquarium filter can help. feed crickets and other bugs. keep the temp. warm, especially the water. maybe 78F - 80F? not really sure on that one but since frogs hibernate in the winter i can guess you do want to keep it fairly warm - oh! just go see what temp. it is outside when they are active. that will work. keep a lid on the tank. do water changes, maybe 30% every 2 weeks or so. by the way, im assuming this is not a tree frog. if it is, then you will need a different type of setup. and for that i dont know what to tell you.

like i said, iv never heard of that type of frog before. you really should find an official care sheet on them before taking my word for it but i figure most all frogs are about the same and this setup should be sufficient until you figure out the details on how to take care of the little guy. good luck to you. and dont let anyone talk you out of keeping him if you want to. frogs make great pets, just go look up all the great frog forums on the web!

Thanks a lot CritterKeeper!! We live in Australia so most of our frogs are active all year round! My partner keeps LOTS of fish and so we have set it up roughly as you have said... we have just found some care sheets for this little one and it is quite legal for us to keep her so I think we will!! Thanks again for your advice :)

Cheers

If it is a wild frog I would release it back into the wild. Its not fair to keep it indoors and trying to get it to feed could cause problems.
