My Brackish Tank

Also, what species of archers are they? Most likely they will be the larger brackish water species, but then theres a chance of them being Toxotes microlepis. In which case id say lowend brackish at the most but its not entirely needed. I keep mine in freshwater and they are as happy as can be!

Good for you. Mine is Toxotes Jaculatrix though...

I have yet to see the Microlepis traded in my country...

I believe that all three Toxotes species are traded about equally in Europe and Asia, though perhaps a bit less equally in the US. Indeed, according to some authors (like Aqualog author Frank Schaefer), Toxotes microlepis may even be the most commonly traded species!

I find Toxotes jaculatrix and Toxotes microlepis very difficult to tell apart, and the only 100% sure way is to count the spines in their dorsal fin. There are some slight differences in patterning, but I do suspect much overlap between them, so you have to be cautious. Do see my FAQ for drawings of the three different species.

The jaculatrix is endemic to our country.

Cool. For what it's worth, "endemic" means a species is ONLY found in one particular place (typically a country). The Blind Cave Tetra for example is only found in Mexico, so it is endemic to Mexico.

Toxotes jaculatrix occurs across a huge range from India to Australia. T. microlepis is found across a smaller range, but still most of Southeast Asia, including Thailand and Indonesia.

Ok guys...

I'm pulling out the bichir, the pink tail, the leporinus and the bass...

I'm dumping the following as substitutes:

1) Sturgeon
2) Climbing Perch
3) Flagtail Prochilodolus
4) Neon Blue Ram
5) Orange Chromide
6) Humback Puffer fish
7) Long eared sunfish

I hope this is a better lineup...

comments please : -)

Hi everyone.. I took your advise... here's my tank now... The archers are getting healthier each week. So are the scats...

The Tarpons are stable. I'll move them once they make it to 7 inches.

Guys... would puffers be threats to my archers? I heard they tear off tails of much larger fishes. Is that true?

Here's my puffer on quarantine. I really don't know what type he is. He is roughly 3inches tip to tip.
