My Boys Fish Are Dying

2.5 ppm on Nitrate?  Are you estimating, or what type of kit are you using to test with?

That said, the readings appear to be short and I don't think they warrant a water change just yet.  I would expect to see the Nitrate ppm closer to 10-20 levels.

Agree... the goal is zero ammonia, zero nitrite.  So, if they aren't zero, then you do the water change.   The nitrates are easily the least accurate of the kits, so I wouldn't worry about that number specifically.

Focus on ammonia and nitrite.  If they are zero, then you are good.

IF they stay zero for 7 consecutive days, then you are cycled.  Then you will be doing 25% minimum weekly water changes as part of the standard maintenance.

Ummm with the nitrate, i was kind of estimating b/c the colour wasnt quite dark enough to call it 5. ppm. Is that okay?

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! I cant express enough how much y'all have helped us and how appreciative we are!

it's looking good! ... as has already been said if ammonia dn nitrite are at zero then no need to water change. If they stay zero for the next week then you're cycled! :D
