My partner divided my 24G tank so I could keep my Bettas in it. It's fully filtered and heated and my boys love it!

Stang1--That's hysterical!! They look like they're all in little phonebooths--beautifully accessorized ones, of course.

That is so cute! What a great idea!

I'm dying to get another betta since Betta Boy died a week ago. I got a new 3 gallon tank with filter and light (and my heater) and I'm a little intimidated by all the info I've been reading about "fishless cycling, etc." I want to set this tank up with a filter to give my next betta a good, fighting chance, but I've never set up a filtered tank on my own before. (And my husband can't remember how he did our molly tank a few yrs. ago!).

I was planning to take a used " Ellite hush filter cartridge" from the molly tank to start it.

Enjoy your guys!

Warmly,
Wendy :yahoo:

 Thanks Wendy!
I'm so sorry you lost Betta Boy, it's awful. I've got a spare "photo booth" at the moment as I lost Legolas a week before the tank was ready.
You'll be fine setting up your new tank. If you are using a filter from your other tank then you may not need to cycle as the bacteria will have built up already.
Set your tank up as normal and add the filter straight away, give it a few hours and then test your water. Chances are your readings will all be fine. My fighter tank has an external filter so when I set it up it had pretty much cycled. I left it for a few days to make certain it had cycled and then added my boys.
I hope you find a new Betta, he'll be a lucky boy!

Can I ask where the heater and filter are placed? I am planning to divide up some ten gallons I have into 3 sections and can't figure out the best place to stick the filter and heater. I thought about just breaking down and getting little mini sponge filters for each section but that's a lot of filters! (4 tanks=12 sections!!)

Absolutely fantastic job on the dividing. loving the decor as well really looks top notch.

again how does the filter work - is it similar to barracks system with the drip system also how have you heated the water - ?

have you used a another tank with heaters in and pumped the water directly into your betta tank.

good job though stang :good: :good: :good: :good: :good: :good:

First your tank is beautiful!! Now for the questions. Is your dividers DIY or ones from the pet store? Is that pvc pipe along the back top of the tank with holes drilled in? What type of filter are you using, if it is a DIY drip system can you please tell us how it is done.

That is an awesome tank! I love how its decorated with the rocks and plants. I would like to live in that (if I were a fish).

That tank looks awesome!! I love the natural look... you can't beat it! What a bunch of spoiled little boys, hehe. Great job!

:hyper: :hyper: Ok Stang what they are all hinting at is can we come round for tea and drool over your tank?

You gotta tell us how he did it! lol
It looks absolutely fantastic. Love the decor and all of the bettas look so happy.
Please do tell us how it's filtered and heated.
Would love to know how to do this successfully with multi-divided tanks :D

Thanks everyone for the nice comments.
The tank is a Fluval 800 Uno and my partner used perspex for the dividers which are siliconed in. We sanded the perspex down so the boys can't see each other!
The tank has a Fluval 305 external filter on it, I know it's a big filter for little fish but it's a lot easier and helps control the water flow. My partner put a false bottom in the tank which has holes in allowing the water to filter right through. The pvc pipe is attached to the outlet and we've adjusted it so there is very little flow going through.
There is only one heater on the left hand side of the tank and it's keeping the temperature at a constant but we are planning on adding another heater just for good measure!
I was worried about the fish jumping over the dividers and I knew it would be a pain for my partner to cut the perspex around the lights. He decided to silicone some more perspex into the lid just below the lights and made a 25mm hole above each compartment so I can feed them without removing the lid. There is a slight gap between the divider and the perspex in the lid but not big enough for them to jump through.
My partner has to take all the credit, he came up with the idea and did all the hard work and swearing! He did put a lot of work into it and if you plan on making one you are best investing in some clamps for the dividers while the silicon dries. He's my Mr DIY so luckily he had everything to hand that he needed!
Tank was originally set up as a community tank so we had everything we needed except the perspex, but if we were to set it up from new, it would be quite expensive. A smaller filter could be used but the way the tank is set up you need an external filter. Any tank could be adapted within reason but we find Fluval tanks reliable and reasonably priced.
If anyone is interested further and wants to make one, I'll speak to my partner and try to sort something out. Whether you just need help and advice or maybe want one making, PM me and maybe we can come up with something. ;)
