i have about 50 + bn hatchlings

ive got them in a trap (so i can keep track of them)

few questions

first time dad, will he get over the loss of his fry?
hes still in the cave, normal?
what to feed them? i put in a slice of cucumber... is this ok?
are they light sensitive?
i put card over the trap if they are..

how long until they are recognisable as fish? lol

they are just eggs with tails atm

Let them back out, and into the cave. He will watch over them. A trap is not a good alternative. The male will not let them out of the cave until they actually look like pleco's, right now, they need to be in a cave with him watching over them, it's what's best for them. If you can, put them back into the cave, and he will make sure they don't get out. My male who was a first time father did a wonderful job.

HI I BREED BRISTLENOSE all the time

i sometimes take out the fry and put them in a breeding trap or a small tank to grow on
the male will be ok with out the fry in tank if he is still in cave that fine as well
cucumber for fry is good i feed mine all the time it having a light is ok with them

at the end of the day the male will look after the fry intill they leave the cave then they will be fine in the tank but this depends on wot other fish u have in the tank

if hes like my adults males they stay in the cave all the time with or with out any eggs or fry in the cave
u can feed them cucumber or courgette is the best as it will last longer in the tank water only need a little piece tho remove it every day and put in another piece i normaly after a wk or so feed them crash hi growth pellet feed i feed mine on beef heart they love it and grow really well on this but i only feed them that couple times a wk

every one have they own way to look after the fry or eggs someone else will tell u something else then me

everyone have there own ideas

its all trail and error at the end of the day m8

any more help let us know by email if u like

rhing is i realy dont want to risk thier live and if they will survive wothout the dad in the trap.... ther guna stay in the trap

the dad leaves the cave alot

from what ive heard there not suposed to do this
the khulis kept going in and out of the cave when he was not guarding the fry so i put them in the trap with half a plastic cup, cuccumber and the air stone

it will be hard getting them back in the cave

ps how long do they take to grow

my mollie were like a cm long in about a month

Let them back out, and into the cave. He will watch over them. A trap is not a good alternative. whats wrong with a trap ... (this is not a rhetorical question)

nothing will get in and they are completely safe... plus they have the benifit of food

The deal with traps are, they don't get good circulation. It's bad for the fry if they don't get goo circulation. Besides, they will be able to get food in the tank, mine did. They grow VERY SLOWLY. Mine hit an inch ( 2 and a half cm ) at about 4 months old. That's with warm water, food, and weekly water changes. They just don't grow very fast.

when my longfins breed the male kicks out the rggs and breeds again with another female so i puts the eggs in a breeding trap with a air stone then when the eggs have hatched abt 5 days or so temp on 80f and when they have eat there eggs sack i puts them in the fry tank with the other longfins bns

bns fry will look after there selfs in the tank i do a warm wtaer changed in my fry tank or my breeding tank every wk part from when i have fry in tank then its twice awk intill the fry have been moved to a 4ft tank appart from my common fry they stay with the adults as i sell them on with in couple wks

fry will be ok in the tank with the adults and other fish
they will look after there selfs evan if the fry come out of the cave with there egg sack still on them they will be ok the thing is dont fuss over them

if he kicks out the eggs then put them in a breeding trap with a air stone then when they are free swimming let them go bk in tank..hope this helps
