Hi, Im not so good with different types of betta, so I was hoping someone could tell me what tail types they have please?

Also my lil fella has decided he likes resting on top of the filter, he will be fine like that wont he as its quite close to the surface of the water?

Thanks,

Pix.... first ones of the female - pike (because she reminds me of a tiny pike patrolling her territory) shes very inquisitive.

Thank you x

Pike looks like a plakat to me, and the male is a veil tale. They aren't in the same tank are they? If they are, they should be separated immediately for a load of reasons...

The female is either a halfmoon, delta/super delta or veiltail. It's very hard to tell because she isn't shown flaring so I can't really judge the length of the anal fin. It's shorter than I would expect for a veiltail but she could just be young.
The male is a veiltail. Nice looking fish!

Very nice...both of them :good: Male is a Veiltail and the female at first glance looked like Plakat but then I noticed her caudal and it looks like she may have combtail in her.

Ah. Plakat.
Listen to Constantine.
Never actually seen a plakat female - she's stunning! Actually now you mention it the other fins are too short for the DeT/SD/HM.

heya thanks for the replies :D now I can put a tail type to my fishies and know what people are talking about hehe. No they arnt in the same tank, the female is in a tank with neons and a few glowlights which she seems to quite like because she swims around with them when shes not staking out the corners of the tank! The males in a tank by himself but when we brought him home he seemed to be looking for the females he lived with in the shop...but hes not having any bless him!

Do you think (after I research it) theyd make nice baby bettas?

Grrrrrr. where abouts in Manchester did you buy them? Bloody Manchester shops can be soooo bad, I wish they would do their research. At least your boy looks in good shape, he looks similar to my Neptune, take a look at my post with pics! I wouldn't worry too much if he is hanging round the filter, my Baby did that for a few days, and actually sat on it a few times! Then he got the hang of having his own tank and made the most of it!

heya! seen your Neptune hes gorgeous! I love his colours!

bought them from a place called jolleys in fallowfield which is about 3 miles from us (we live near didsbury/stockport), they even had a little notice up by the tank saying *female fighters - community fish 99p* I got my female from here too. I did ask about the sign and say that I didnt think they were meant to be kept together, but the girl there said theyve always kept them together - even though I've shopped there for my other pets for the last 2 years and Ive never seen the ever have female fighters and only the occasional male, theyve only really had them in stock for the last couple of months.

they all seemed pretty healthy though and the tanks wernt overstocked like in some places. they even had a male fighter in with a tank of male guppies, he seemed not too bothered though which is lucky so far for them...

Ive noticed that my lil fella bobs his head before he eats and during eating, its so cute its like hes nodding :D

Neptune nods his head too! But he gets overexcited and his whole body moves. Then if he doesn't get food, he starts swimming up and down the front of the tank :p So cute! I got Neptune from Swan St pet shop in Manchester city centre - corner or Tib St and Ancoats. They have some cute bettas in there :p but always with tetras, which annoys me. Baby came from a fish shop in Droylsden where I live.
Have you been to Oasis in Salford? Great shop, marines too :) ehich always have me staring for hours! But decent fish, just make sure you have done your homework cos I have had crap advice from there :p

no i havent, were not originally from manchester so i dont really know where all the good shops are!

we usually go to the abyss in stockport but they closed for a move just after xmas and havent reopened their fish dept yet, it was huge last time though with marine fishies too, apparently its gonna be bigger...just hope they get decent staff in! x

This is going to be off topic but those females have very dark lines, doesnt that mean they are very stressed?

I think thats her colouring.

my male betta was in the lfs with loadsa neons but he had no tail or fin damage.

I added to his tank emperor tetra and guppies (didnt know anything about fish) but no1 cause a problem.

Until my betta met my gourami.

and they argued a lot.

So now my betta has his own tank.

He sits up by the filter a lot... i keep checking hes not stuck to it, but he never is. He was very stressed from the gourami ordeal and for a few days wouldnt eat.

Now he is fine and swims about looking for bloodworm. he also has started showing off when people pass the tank :)

Why shouldnt a male be in with females? My lfs suggested putting three females in as tank mates. I take it this is a bad idea?

also, what tail type is mine? Just to make it back on topic!!

(someone did tell me but I forgot :S)

Males and females should not be mixed as they can be very aggressive towards each other, even killing each other. The only time they should be together is for spawning, and even then the breeder needs to watch very carefully and take the female out asap when things are finished. Don't listen to your LFS! :p
That is a pretty betta, I am no expert but going from what I have learnt on here that is a crowntail i think?
