On my other topic " is my betta fish sick or spastic " I mentioned that my betta went through crazy spasms 3 times a day, I started doing daily water changes and he got better. He is a veiltail male betta fish in a 2 gallon " pet keeper from petco " by himself, he has a beautiful turquoise color when he catches light but it won't show up in pictures I don't know why. Well, I have a dumb little plastic plant from petco with fairly sharp edges, it didnt seem really sharp but I guess it was sharp enough for this to happen, and the plant was supposed to be " specifically made for bettas " says the good for nothing petco employee that told me that, he was supposed to be a so called aquatic specialist. Well already had a very small rip at the beginning of his fin, the middle one, the very small rip started at the end of his body where the fins started. Today I saw that his middle fin had a rip all the way down his fin! As if the little rip on his fin was caught in the stupid plant and the poor fish tried to break free and his fin ripped , it looks like a clean cut all the way down his whole fin. I feel so bad for him, I don't know if he's in pain, but I saw him still building his bubblenest. What should I do? What can I do? Thank you for your time, consideration, commentary, and opinion

You can't do too much.
The tank is pretty small (I prefer at least 2.5 gal for my Betta's, but thats just me)
You can keep doing your daily water changes. Is there a filter or heater in the tank? A filter would be a good idea to keep the stats balanced, but in a tank so small I think a filter would create too strong a current.
Keep doing daily water changes of about 30%, this will keep the water as clean as possible so his fin won't get infected hopefully.
Remove the plant! Plastic plants are among the worst things to be in Betta tanks. If you want to put plants in the tank, get real ones or get silk ones.
If you want to add something like stresszyme it wouldn't hurt either, but it's not necessary so long as you keep up your all important water changes :)

I used a product called Tetra Life Guard (32 Tablets red box). I just did one round of treatment when my fish had fin rot and a small body fungus growing on his head (5 days) and then about a 60% water change. Since then his fin is restored and fungus is all gone. I'd recommend this but it is not good for new tank setups, invertebrates, and scaleless fish so be care full. Also 2.5 gallon is not what i recommend (tho many on here will). I would look for at least 5-6 gallon tanks.

GoodLuck!

There's no filter or heater but the water is always 80 degrees in my area, and I keep I high performance thermometer in the tank so I know exactly what temp the water is, but there's no heater or filter, thanks for reading my post :)

Thank you for reading my post, I'll try that:) Q: what species of fish do you have? What species of fish did you try tetra lifeguard on?

Don't worry about him being in pain - fins are like fingernails - they grow but they can't feel them. It's only when an injury occurs right at the base of the tail (like us cutting into the quick) that pain occurs :) Regular water changes and good feeding will have his fin healed in no time :good:
