I just found her about an hour ago, curled and dried up
I had just changed her water about 3 hours before and I did fill her bowl a little high :( , I never even thought about her jumping out and I should of...she's the most excitable one of the bunch, she must have seen something buzz by her bowl or just got excited flirting with her male neighbor , I had also moved a plug and the cord was above her bowl so maybe she was trying to get it :-(

She apparently bounced through a whole pile of screws that were lying on my counter  , I didn't see her in the bowl and started searching and she was a good 18" from her bowl, poor girl

I plopped her in the water and gave her a gentle swish or two, talked to her and she started breathing again, her eyes look weird and her scales have a hairlike texture coming off of them, but she's laying on the gravel and coming up for air , I guess all I can do is pray & wait... :/

That sounds horrible. Hang in there. Keep dishing out the TLC. I'm sure the pros on this forum will have some good advice for ya.

Your betta will be very stressed,

(no ####)

So get some Stress Coat, or some Aqua Plus, and put a little bit in her water to coat her scales and help repair her wounds a bit. Betta's have a labrynth organ in their head that allows them to process oxygen from the air, so she will likely be ok as long as she wasn't out too long. The air like texture could either be cuts or dust and dirt from the floor.

Anyways, keep an eye on her.

Good Luck

Wuv, sorry to hear that :-( I'd go with what HooDude said and put some stress coat in the water and just keep a very close eye on her.

its happened to allot of people on this forum it happened to me. the neta will prolly be ok mine was. they form a protective mucus on their gills to stop them from drowning in air. they can breath air too but its obviously not ideal to keep them on a carpet. im shure it will pull thru so long as you keep it in a nice environment for a while oh and you might wanna get a lid for the bowl ;)

Thanks you guys...she didn't make it though

I did all I could for her last night, and it's not that she had a long fall, she was just out of the water too long
Bless her little heart, no more lidless homes, DARN IT!
It's my own fault, I should have known better, 1st fish I've lost in a loooong time
Thanks for all of the kind support ;)

im sory to hear that try not to blame yourself it was probably the long fall stressed her out also one thing made the think that sometimes fish will clear the water to clear out their gills when placed in new tanks. perhaps the water change encouraged this reaction tho i would have thaught bteas would go about things differently as they can breath from the surface (maybee a difference between the female and the male). all fish should be in a covered tank bowl as they all sometimes jump the bowl and crabs will get out other ways.

i have saw lots of betta in bowls and the bowls r not that small prob 2 gallons, then i saw this male betta jumped in the other betta's bowl and i saw them beat each other like hell! :-(

Kevin :X

it was the perfect sized bowl, she was the happiest little betta but as I said....very hyper, always snapping at anything above her bowl and I figure she just got excited and (with the bowl being too full) flipped right over the top  , my poor male who lives in a tall two gallon hex next to her must have seen the whole thing because it was his body language that made me look in her bowl , I had to move her because it was obviously upseting him watching her struggle to come back to life :(

coincidently I had just got a 3rd female yesterday so I moved her by him and he seems to be recovering from the trauma his poor eyes saw

Hi Again,

Now listen here;

Don't worry yourself, we can't be responsible for the actions of our fish. Don't be hard on yourself. I am sorry to hear that your betta didn't make it, I hope you other guy will do better.

Lids are a good idea, but make sure you still have some air holes. Infact how about taking a tupper-ware lid and cutting out the center so you just have a rim, and then gluing a circle piece of screen or wire mesh into it, that way you have a lid and you still get air circulation!

Later!
