hi all

2day my bettas spawned it was really cool cause the male and female wer pickin up the eggs and addin them to the nest

just wonderin but wen they spawn the fenake becomes paralized but has anyone ever had it happen to there male before??
cause it happened to mine a few times

anyway ive removed them both cause im just worryed if they get eaten

does it take 24 hours for them to hatch???

thanx all

You removed them both? Have the eggs hatched & the fry swimming yet?

Unless you saw him starting to eat them, I would leave him in. The male needs to be in the tank to pick the eggs up off the bottom. I believe (someone help me out here) if the eggs rest on the bottom, they can develop some kind of disease/fungus.

Did you read the pinned article at the top of the forum? I think this should answer your hatching question:

Dad will watch closely over the eggs for the next few days. Don't feed him at this time,it may trigger his appetite and right now he's not hungry anyway, he's got work to do. The male will sit diligently watching his nest. He may cruise the tank from time to time, checking for stray eggs or predators,be careful not to let him see you, he will eat the eggs if he feels threatened.

After 24 hours you will notice little baby fry falling from the nest like rain, now's Dads time to shine! For the next 48 hours he will catch the babies, day and night, and put them back in the nest. That's why it is important to leave some dim lighting for him at night. If he gives up quickly or turns on the fry and you notice him eating them, go ahead and take him out and lower your water level to about 3". The fry will feed off their egg sacks for 2-3 days, these are attached to their belly and they're rather heavy, that's what causes the fry to fall.

For 2 days he will watch over the fry, on the 2nd day they should go from this position l to this position _ and swimming on their own vertically, remove dad now because he's hungry and those fry are starting to look delicious!
You should already have his tank set up and ready for him.

hi

well im sure eatin them cause he picked some up from the bottom then swam off into the plants and only came out to pick more off the bottom then go bac to the plants

i lower the water level more

thanx for the reply

He may have been moving the nest. The male is also responsible for cleaning off eggs with his mouth and eating unfertilized and/or fungused eggs. good luck!

This is true .I've been thinking about 'failed spawns' due to the father eating all the eggs, we of course assume he's an egg eater but maybe he has deeper reasons that we are unaware of.

Either way, good luck jmaster. Keep us posted.

jmaster, I've seen one of my males do the passing out routine in the tank a few times. Don't know why. Maybe the girls beauty kept knocking them off their fins. Hope all goes well, and if not, try try again.

thanx texaswoman

ive tryed a few times b4 wiv different males an females but never no luck

ive tryed with these 2 b4 as well but all eggs wer eaten

From what Ive read, usually its like, what 1 or 2 days later that they hatch? If not, theres something wrong, unless Im wrong ;)

hi everyone

how comes the babys ainght movin around much??

there 3 days old 2day

and as the water levels low should i fill the tank to the top??

thanx all

Well if I am correct the babies do not have thier labyrinth organ developed yet so add a bubbler but VERY gently with a valve guage.
