He is so swollen!

his belly has quadroooopled in size and he just lays sideways at the bottom..gets active when there is food around (I've been feeding him small portions once a day)..

I've included some anti-fungal medicine but I don't know what else to do..he is not getting any thinner! any advice?

and after you fast him for a bit, feed him peas for a few days, adn then carefully ease him back to this regular diet.

he could just be constipated. But then again it could be something worse liek an internal parasite or infection

Hi there, ;)

I actually had the same problem with my Betta the day before yesterday. I was away on vacation for a week and he wasn't fed for that week. Then when I got back home I fed him but I think it was too much for him. Also been having quite a difficult time because I also have a little ADF living with him..and it's so hard to get those little guys to eat...usually the Betta gets it before the frog does.

I've had to start tricking my betta by tapping my finger on the surface of the water on other side of the tank and then dropping food on the other side of my tank for my frog!!!

Hard work for these little guys!!

Anyways I haven't fed my Betta since the day before yesterday and his belly is back to normal size. I was really scared as I had this happen to another Betta that I had who actually died from it.

My Betta right now seems just fine.

I really hope yours gets better soon!! :)

I made him fast for a couple of days when it first happened, but no use..

I'll let him fast for another two days, then feed him peas..

Thanks!

I agree. It sounds like it could be dropsy. Try to look straight down at the bettas back. If the scales are protruding out like a pinecone, it is in the latter stages of dropsy. If it has dropsy, my advice is to cull it. Keeping it around will infect other fish. Dropsy is almost incurable in the latter stages. Some people say they have cured dropsy before, and it is possible, but most of the fish suffer and die. Dropsy is a kidney problem where the fish retains it's body fluids, so it swells up.
