I feed it these flakes that were given to me from the pet store, is there anyhting else i can get it?

Try H the pellet type betta food. In my experience betta's don't actually like the flake food. Not that the stores will tell you this, they usually tell you oh flakes are fine just so they know in a few days you will return. Frozen brine shrimp or bloodworms can be given as a treat but not all the time. Bloodworms are good as far as protien goes but very high in fat. Sometimes the betta won't eat until he's really comfortable with his new home after the stressful move. Good Luck

My betta is a finnicky eater...
First, I tried the Hikari Bio Gold baby pellets... wouldn't touch them with a ten foot pole.
Then, I tried supplementing him with dried bloodworms... liked them at first, now won't touch them.
Next, I picked up a container of Tetra BettaMin flakes... seems to love them... this is now his regular meal.
Still try to give him dried bloodworms every once in a while, but he doesn't seem to like them anymore. :/

I feed them pellet type food. Mine didn't seem intersted in bloodworms even though on the lable it says they LOVE 'EM. Yeah right. Feed according to the bottle. I give four pellets morning and night. They love to eat.

ah i see.. i had a friend and she fed hers pellets and she said she had to crush them up so it could fit them into his mouth but they have big mouths....and then again hers died...poor lil bubbles...

If you just bought him, don't worry so much about him not eating. 1) as was said before, they can be finicky and 2) some bettas take a while to get used to their new environment/home.

When I bought my first betta, Solomon, about a month ago he wouldn't eat at first. And he definitely didn't like that flake food that came with the 1/2 gallon I got for him. I read up and strolled through message boards like this one to see what's popular.

Now, both of my boys are spoiled rotten. I have 4 different types of food :*) that they love:
*HBH Betta Bites -- primary food, vitamin enriched
*Hikari Bio Betta Gold pellets -- primary food, vitamin enriched
*Hikari FD brine shrimp -- treat once or twice a week, has vitamins as well
*Top Fin FD blood worms -- treat usually once, maybe twice a week (they'll eat pretty much any brand blood worms--this was the cheapest, but it's not vitamin fortified so may switch to Hikari brand when this runs out)

Bettas, in a sense, are just like humans. We like variety and our tastes vary from person to person. Just experiment and see what he likes. Make sure he's getting his vitamins and nutrients. Go easy on treats like blood worms and brine shrimp.

And be disciplined in not overfeeding him. They're like little pigs and will eat as long as food's in front of them. But their stomach's only about the size of their eye. Also, fast them for one day a week so they can clean out their system and you reduce chances of constipation. (he might even eat that flake food after you fast him  )

Keep us posted.

well i put four pellets in there this morning and theres only one there now so thats proly it :D thnx!

You're welcome. Glad he's eating. :)

Make sure to remove any food he doesn't eat. Who knows...he may even get so comfortable he'll eat from your hand like my Samson. :D

oh cute! my mom is thinking about getting another one...in a separate tank of course. :p
