I have had my betta for about 6 months and he has always been a healthy guy. He lives in a filtered 2 gallon tank (water paramaters are all OK). He lives on a diet of blood worms and betta food. Yesterday I noticed that his stomach was starting to puff up, and today it has gotten huge. He is still swimming around fine and he eats any food I put in the tank. But I don't know whats going on. :( Any ideas???

it could be something simple as him eating too much and trying to process the food...or it could be something like an internal parasite causing him to puff up. As long as he is eating and swimming around he should be OK...you might wanna go to your LFS and see if they have anything that may help. It could eben be as simple as adding some aquarium salt to the water...

Good luck

He is gettig worse, his tummy is huge, but he keeps right on eating. I noticed something weird today when I was cleaning his tank, there were tons of clear flake-like things floating in the water. I noticed it after I syphoned the gravel. I have never seen this before. The water parameters are still good. I don't know whats going on!!!

Hi,

When you say Puffed Up.

Do You mean Like a Balloon.

Or is he Puffed up like a Pineapple.

If it is the latter then try and medicate with Interpret 9.

I have never had a Betta Recover from Dropsy, But I wish you all the Best.

sounds like internal parasite or the first stage of (the unsurvivable and feared by betta owners) Dropsy :-( Poor guy.

stop feeding him bloodworms.. 2 much bloodworms is very bad for bettas... fast him for a day.. dont feed him anything... then next day give him a little bit of flakes... if it doesnt go down by day 3 dont feed him on day 3....

thats my only suggestion

... and those white things... i know my betta bowls get em when i dont change the water enough... is there water circulation on the surface of the water?.. if not thats probably what it is.. give him a big water change and do the feeding thing.. hopefully he will be ok
