Bob hasn't been feeling himself for a few days - the fin rot stopped but he didn't perk up. I changed his filter (to another already cycled one) and have been doing frequent water changes, but last night I noticed that he is 'pineconing'. I've dosed him with Maracyn 2. Should I continue with the 5 day treatment and see how he does from there, or as dropsy is deemed to be fatal should I put him out of his misery sooner? -_- Is there anything else I can do?

I have heard that colloidal silver can sometimes work with dropsy even at the later stages. You might be able to get it from health type shops I think. try searching this site and the net for it and you might get some more info.

Good luck

I agree.
At this point, the chances of him making it are pretty slim, I'm afraid.
But I have known people to bring them back from dropsy with colloidal silver.

Best of luck with him.
Please keep us posted.

Sorry to hear that Sarah :(

I tried to nurse 2 bettas through dropsy but only had the maracyn 2 for the last one, but he still didn't make it. He gently slipped away at around day 3 of the treatment.

I would say try the treatment, but if he's struggling for breath and can't get up to the surface maybe be kinder to put him out of his misery :-( I was considering putting my guy down but found him gone the next day. You could try the epsom salt baths but I found that netting them and putting them in there 3 times a day seemed to stress them out more than the treatment probably helped :/ You could also drop the water level down so he doesn't have so far to reach air.

Good luck with Bob
