For some reason, pumps just do not last for me....I got extremely tired of changing rubbers and diaphragms so I invested in a blower.... Wow!!... I'm blowing the fish outta the water, and it is all maintenance free.... She just keeps blowing... (she's currently drawing 17 tanks, plus a blowoff on the side... to prevent water splashing out).

What's your take, and what good investments have you made....

This is one of the (many) pumps I used to use..... (& lookit the spider on the wall)

This is my blower....

Lookit the size of those bubbles

And lookit the size of the surface break....

very interesting idea. what did the unit cost you?
thinking on it. could the "blow off" be used to cool tanks, during very hot weather? blowing air over the surface of the water would help cooling, but increase evaporation too i guess.

best investment, to date, i have made was a second external for my 50ukg. £55 for a little used Eheim2224. it was shocking to see how a tank, i had no complaints about, was transformed by its addition. best bargain, a Test Point Industry's, commercial thermometer. picked up at a car boot, for nothing as i recall. ( got it calibrated free at work)

The first pump in the top photo cost me R800... The blower was R1,200... (exchange currently at around R15 to the pound and at about R10 to the $).... never tried it as cooler, but the aggitation it supplies also contibutes to lower temps....

There is a difference between a spider, and something that can eat you in your sleep.

You need to call in the authorities, that things going to kill you.

My wife just hates when I kill them...... She chases them out with the feather duster, so they end up moving into the garage with my fish... That one is a baby...(still drinking from the mother)

great idea, mental note I'm not moving to south africa if that's a baby spider, or hire a spider killer to follow me around

So the blower has a big fan instead of a diaphragm?

I quite like the spiders :good: .

If you dont like them, could you get some big geckos in South Africa to eat them or something? Would make pretty cool pets.

I've heard of people in the UK using geckos in heated fish/reptile rooms to eat escaped crickets that are usually fed to the fish/reptiles.

Yep!!... You are right there... With all them spiders moving into the garage, I have plenty lizards and geckos also in there....(and frogs) (geez!!!.... the grammar..... I'm surprized no-one has taken me out on that already)... Maybe just pardoned because I'm Afrikaans?
