I was just saying altum because of the long nose. Most domesticated types have a more round nose correct?
Long noses are indicative of Pterophyllum leopoldi I believe.
I'm saying P. Scalare, zebra veil is just a strain of this type of angel fish.
Pterophyllum altum is another type of angel fish, these are taller than regular angels (P. scalare) and are much rarer/more expensive and often wild caught. If you had altums you would know it from the price you paid alone.
Thanks for your replies so far!!!
So is it Zebra Veil or Pterophyllum altum?
BTW I don't know what Pterophyllum altum means.
I'll try and help clear things up for you.
To start with there is more than 1 type of angel fish, Pterophyllum is the genus name of all angel fish. From this there are 3 different species.
Pterophyllum scalare (regular angelfish)
Pterophyllum altum (a taller, much more rare and expensive angelfish)
Pterophyllum leopoldi (also rarer, distinctive in that it has a 'longer' body and nose)
What you have, and I'm going on Tolak as they know their stuff about angels, is a Pterophyllum scalare (regular angel) but the particular strain you have is called Zebra veil.
Hope this helps.
