My 8 Legged Freaks

The starburst is alllll boy and growing at a rate of knots! Scary growth rate, is still tiny but he was a pin prick when i got him :p even a film canister was huge for him lol.

Now he could probably manage a small pinky if he wanted, though no need yet, he loves his mealworms and locusts and whatever else my friend feeds him. Maybe i will hold him as an adult.

Its a bit annoying, i chose one with the best colours and hoped for a male but now the male is going to be the one at risk when he ends up in with a female (studded out for 50/50 slings).

Sweet.
yea if hes still small it probably is too soon for pinkys.
How often is he molting?
Got any pics of him?

Afraid not, i dont see my mate nearly enough atm, must remember to take camera. If im honest, im too scared to take photos of spiders now!

I mean... im nervous of thm at the best of times, i agreed to take photos of her spiders so long as they didnt come near me...

What wasnt planned was for her seriously nasty 'orange bity thing' to run straight at my camera and up onto the lens before i dropped the camera and ran screaming LOL

Im sure it was something like...selenobrachis phillipinnis or something.... hang on...

I didnt appreciate having that run at my face!!

Im unsure on how often he sheds tbh, its not something i have ever asked really! He is probably about 1-1.5" including his legs in a normal sitting position and still fairly drab in colouring.

Those are scary things!! ...im petrified of normal day to day spiders never mind tarantula's. Great work on keepin & maintaining them as a pet though!

Slim your spiders are awesome...but the hairs on the back of my neck stood up when viewing your pics. Most of the spiders here in Australia are pretty dangerous. Funnel webs, red backs, trap door, just to name a few. But I was told the most venomous spider in the world was the good old daddy long legs. Because their fangs are so small they are unable to bite you. Have you heard of this before or is it just a fallacy.

Ewe they give me the shivers, but each to their own.
Having said that I never kill spiders I find in the house, I catch them & let them go outside

Beautiful pictures of amazing creatures there! :)

Well done for keeping them in such good shape for so long.

To give an answer to Better is Betta: I heard the story about one of the most (or even THE MOST) venomous spiders being a small garden spider (or Daddy longlegs spider) with fangs too small to penetrate human skin.

A lot of sites online report that it is a myth. I am certainly no expert, but the logic often used makes sense to me.

They explain that it would be very difficult to know this if their fangs cannot penetrate human skin. I know there is a lot of research into the natural world, but do people really often go round extracting the venom of small and harmless spiders to test it's potency? Would it even be accurate if they did?

Contrary to this, we do of course know that some very venomous spiders in Australia are rather small.

The modern world is full of more 'Urban Myths' than at any other time in our history. It's hard to know for sure which are true... but I believe the 'debunking' on the daddy longlegs super venonmous spider. :)

I love to read about spiders and learn about them. I have only held large spiders twice in my life, and my nervous reaction taught me that I am better off as a passive observer! :)

The daddy long legs spider is the most venomous but cannot penetrate human skin they did something on a show here called myth busters. Also my cousin used to have a tarantula until well we went there and my sister didn't know it was her pet and it was harmless. ( it somehow got out of it's cage ). Then my sister stepped on it. It was too bad it was very nice really. I never got to hold it :(

According to a quick search engine check... the Mythbusters report on that was indeed that it is myth. They showed that it's neither the most toxic, and that it's fangs can penetrate human skin.

I honestly believe it's just one of those little pieces of trivia that people do believe but it has no foundation. :)
