filstar xp4 canister with prizm deluxe skimmer

First: my stocking, i would like a pair of fish that are small like clownfish. i would also like a school of small fish like chorims or cardinals and IF it can fit i would like a butterflyfish or a tang. can you guys work something out for me ?

second: power-heads, i like the maxi jet brand what gph 106/160/230/295 and how many?

third: reverse osmosis, do i NEED one i dont want to spend 100-300 on something that isn't that important.

thats just about all my qeustions thx :good:

For FOWLR an RO unit is not an absolute must, but be prepared for some algae if you do get it.

With powerheads, try and look into the propeller style pumps - Tunze streams, Tunze nano streams or Koralia Hydors. These move far more water for far less electricity, and in a wider flow.

I would think that in a 75 gallon you could get away with a pair of clowns, a tang and a few cardinals or chromis.

if your going to get a skimmer, dont half #### it (i know its probably not your fault for choosing that one) but the prizm skimmer = 100+ dollars wasted for some plastic. Your definately going to want to get a much more reliable one. Tunze and Deltec are good, but these are European companies and are a bit pricey. Look into Euro-Reef (ironically an american company i think), i hear ASM makes good skimmers too.

And don't forget Octopus skimmers. They're gradually gaining lots of favor among members of my local club.

Same, seems that they are the best for the low budget skimmer. Just want to say that ASM is a euro-reef clone that is almost identical except they use different material. ASM uses extruded PVC while Euro-reef uses clear cast acrylic. Neither effect performance but Euro-reef i just built with a better material, hence the higher price. The PM (Precision Marine) bullet skimmer is also getting great reviews.

If you do end up going for a needlewheel (Euro-reef, ASM, Octopus, Deltec i think?) look into a mesh mod. Basically you remove the needles from the pump, use mesh in its place (use something called enkamet or something, marine depot stocks it i think). The mesh REALLY pushes out huge amounts of small bubbles that you will need to probably add a gate valve mod, which you can probably buy on some marine store online.

For schooling fish don't go with the Chromis. That's what I did and now they are bigger than my Flame Angel. I going to give them up and swtich to another type of fish.
