Not heard that about plecos and gravel before. I have three plecos and sand and they are fine. They dig a little but seem to be enjoying themselves.

+1 on that - the only thing is my Large Common Pleco Craps like wild horse, he hasnt been in there 4 days and it looks like he has pooed his body weight twice over and its easy to spot on sand

That's true but at least it's easy to vacuum up. It is a right pita when it falls between gravel (I started off with it)...

I changed over to sand not long ago in my 2.5ft tank and I couldn't believe the amount of crud that gets stuck in the gravel. I've got to do a clean this weekend as its the weekly clean but for the amount of fish I have it's not that bad surprisingly
