Hey... my parents have a pond set up at their work and it's just begun to give off a musty smell... you can't smell it unless you're like a foot away from the pound, but I'm curious, and so are they, what's causing the smell? I've seen no signs of dead fish although we do have one fish missing in action... Could 1 dead fish be causing this problem? the ponds about a 96 gallon indoor pond

the "musty" smell, may well be your pond telling you it is healthy. all aquariums in a healthy state, give off a smell of damp musty earth.

Have your parents tested the water for ammonia, nitrites and nitrates (are there any fish in it yet)? Sometimes water quality issues can make tank water smell pretty bad. All tanks have a kinda fish tank smell, but if its really bad/pungent then (like you say), i would suspect something has gone amiss with the water quality. You should read up on this article (encourage your parents to as well);

Also you say the pond is an indoor one, did they treat the paint on the walls in the room and stuff before setting it up? The evaporation/moisture from the pond will make the whole room go very moldy very quickly otherwise.
