well i've played the flute since i was a little girl, got quite far, got distinction at grade 8 when i was 17, but after going to uni and moving out i stopped playing for a few years. treated myself to a new flute a little while back to start playing again and i've recently started having lessons which I'm really enjoying, feeling really motivated and inspired about playing at the moment. started working towards my Dip which I'm really pleased about.

not got any current recordings of me playing, but here's some youtube vids of the pieces i'm working on at the moment.... first is Monquet, La Flute du Pan

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2VnqSquurU

The seonc I'm working on is a Chaminade Conertino

I'm dead impressed with myself that I'm making good progress particularly with the chaminade which is quite a technically challenging piece (for me anyway!!)

just felt like sharing really...... any other musicians out there, what are you up to at the moment, if you've got any recordings or vids i'd love to see hear what you're doing at the minute. :good:

I dont play anything (i'd love to learn guitar and piano) and i cant sing AT ALL.

but i do write music! :D lol

not gunna post any up here, though.

cool, sure you don't wanna share any??

cool, sure you don't wanna share any??

erm... i'll post a few little chunks. Don't be too harsh though.

You thought you had us both
But now who’s the joke
Guess we’re laughing now
Im not kind, amazing or sweet
Im just easily manipulated
By cheating scum like you
Hey there little lover
Why you running round in circles
Trying so hard to cover
Bitter lies that will surface
One way or another
Walking round, reminiscing
Thinking of the compliments you give me
While having that dark twinkle
Lurking behind your eyes
Yeah, your blatant lies
Hey there little lover
Why you running round in circles
Trying so hard to cover
Bitter lies that will surface
One way or another

Yeah, you hugged and you kissed
You sucked and you blew
And now I’m sitting here all alone
And its all because of you
Its like you’re a drug
And I just cant give up
You’re always in my head
And you wont get out
Im never gunna quit you
No matter how much I try
Yeah, you hugged and you kissed
You sucked and you blew
And now I’m sitting here all alone
And its all because of you
I cant even breathe
Without you interrupting me
You’re always in my thoughts
In my dreams, please don’t leave

Stand in front of the mirror
Look myself up and down
Take of my shirt, undo my jeans
Pick myself apart, piece by piece
I sit and take the abuse
It’s like you want me to loose
I cannot take anymore
You use me, you dump me
Im just like a toy

Why do I do it
Always fall in love
With the ones I cant have
No matter what I say to myself
I always fall for their lies
And their cheats
Only to be broken
Broken by their cruel ways
So don’t say you love me
And don’t say you wanna be with me
Cause I won’t believe a word you say
Yeah, this heart has been broken too many times
Broken into little shards of hurt
So don’t say you need me
My heart cant take it
And I won’t believe

..... :/

Kinda depressing. I listen to worse stuff though, so each to their own taste.

I'm currently working with my band to write/ record songs. I'm currently the singer (we're trying to find a full time one) but I'm mainly the drummer. We hope to finally play our first show in july or august. We're a metal band. We combine a lot of different elements of different kinds of metal. Main ones are power metal, thrash metal, death metal and progressive metal. We get our inspiration from bands like DragonForce, Amon Amarth, Iced Earth, Demons & Wizards, Blind Guardian, you know, any band that can make a cheesey mythical song. We parody that (we don't try to sound like them), which is why we called our band Wizard Quest. Check us out!

goodness me esfa. you fallen out with your partner??
i listen to 50 cent/akon-you could give em a run for their money on depressing lol

ah we've all been there, if it's any consolation it was when i was in a complete man hating phase after similar experiences that i realised i quite fancied one of my closest friends, that was Ian... we've been together over 2 years now and happier than i've ever been...... it sometimes comes when you least expect it. :)

Cool, my mom plays flute, has been since I was in High School. She wanted to get in on the fun, seeing as I was plating trombone at the time, in a couple of bands besides the school bands. She still plays, in the local community college band, hangs with a younger crowd than I do.

I play guitar on & off, picked it up in H.S., easy A to bring up the grade point average. Taking harmony/theory the year before helped. I have enough guitar gear to pack a full size cargo van, having been in several rock/metal bands.

Lately I've been playing my old favorite, a '78 strat; http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/8976/ds...4strat110jr.jpg

I picked up one of these about a month ago; http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/7794/ubermetalgj7.png

I run them through one of these, set up between the oscar tank & the loveseat in the family room; http://img295.imageshack.us/img295/244/marshallminiuk0.png

Mostly rock, metal, blues sort of stuff. The little 12w stack is plenty for in the house, no need to jack the electric bill running 100w of tubes. Playing helps clear my head of all the useless stress related junk that accumulates, my little dog naps on the loveseat while I rock out.

Ooh I remember when you made a similar thread a year or two ago Wiggle.

Well since then I've made some progress. I play tuba and piano, and I want to either play professionally or teach in the future, I definitely want to take Music at uni and am doing Music at college in september.
In March I got distinction for grade 7 tuba so I was very pleased with that. It had been a long time since doing a grade before as I had not taken grade 5 theory for a while, however last November I passed gr.5 theory with distinction so now it feels good to be back taking exams again (they are a pain in the backside to practice for but it's more than worth it after a good result as I'm sure you know Wiggle, especially for you with grade 8 distinction! Would love to get that). Also in about 10 days (eek) I am taking grade 3 piano, started having lessons seriously again last year as I want to get good piano skills which will be useful later on.

Got a few concerts coming up, yesterday I played a solo tuba piece (from grade 7) and 2 grade 3 piano pieces in a small concert organised by my piano teacher to raise money for the church funds. Next week I also have a concert with the youth orchestra I am in, the main piece we are playing is the whole of Tchaikovsky's 5th symphony, so that will be good. Also in August I am going 'on tour' to Scotland with the county brass band I am in.

In my lessons I am learning the Vaughan Williams Tuba Concerto, I learned the 2nd movt. for grade 7 and am now working on the first movt. Looking forward to learning the 3rd movt. as although it is very difficult (not really ready for it yet!) it sounds great, plus it would be great to be able to play a concerto from beginning to end.

edit: sorry for the long post

brilliant congrats on the exam results, yeah it does feel good, like all your hard work is rewarded. and I do like a nicely played Tuba, used to play in a concert band and the tuba player was brilliant, can't remember the name of the piece but he did one piece with a tuba solo that was just beautiful.

i'm hoping to get into teaching in a few years time, nothing major but when we have kids i'd like to be able to give up work for a few years while they are young, but it's unlikley to be financially viable for me to not work completed, but if i start giving lessons, if i do 1 lesson each night of the week and maybe 1/2 at the weekend i can bring in a little bit of cash which will hopefully tip the scales enough that i don't have to go back to work straight away. Just depends though, you never know what the cirucmstances will be at the time and it's a few years off just yet.

Yeah piano skills will be invaluable particularly if you do get into teaching, i'm hopeless on the piano, got grade 5 eons ago but i'm pretty rubbish. We've not room for a piano now but i'm hoping when we move house that we may have room and I can pick it up again.

Thanks.

Yeah going into teaching privately sounds like a really good idea, and flute is quite a popular instrument that people choose to be privately taught on. Not only is it pretty good pay per lesson but also would give you something else to put your mind to if you are off work, and would be an excuse to have a rest from the baby/ies or children and leave them with Ian for an hour or so each evening :D .

Like most people I get privately taught on piano, but my teacher has also helped me get through other musical areas. As well as teaching me piano she also taught me grade 5 theory, she helped me with the grade 7 aural tests and she accompanies my tuba exams. So if you like the theory side then that could be an extra oppurtunity that may come with entering pupils for exams anyway.

aye i'd only be doing the early grades (for the tme being anyway) i'd definatley have to do some swatting to get through grade 5 theory but it's all in my head somewhere. it's part of my job to teach and train people so shouldn't be too big a leap to go to doing that.
