Music? Anyone?

Artist: Slowdive
Album: Slowdive
Song: Sugar For The Pill

Oh! Buke & Gase probably my best find of 2018. Recommend 'General Dome' (both album and track name)

I like Nas, Mos Def, Common, The Roots, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Jhene Aiko, Music Soulchild, Biggie, PAC, 112, Total, Missy, Tim land, Aaliyah. Basically all the r n b and hip hop from the 90s and some newer but similar vocalists.

Have you heard any Atmosphere?
I recommend giving album 'When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Sh!t Gold' a go

Listen to a bit of everything lol. Music from my great grandparents era all the way up to today. What sort of stuff do you like most for suggestions?
I'm very wide ranging in my music tastes, too - tend to prefer particular artists/pieces than genres.

Leonard Cohen/ Songs of Love and Hate/ Famous Blue Raincoat

Leonard Cohen/ Songs from a Room/ Bird on theWire & Song of Isaac

KDLang/ Live by request/ Miss Chatelaine

KDLang/ Hymns of the 49th Parallel/ Hallelujah (better than Leonard Cohen's version)

Bizet/Jussi Bjorling/ The Very Best of Jussi Bjorling/ Pearl Fishers' Duet

That'll do for now

I have bit haven't given a listen. I will do!

Of slightly newer (not 90s) stuff I also absolutely loved JCole's mix tape The Warm Up.

Hmm can't see that on Spotify

Randomly put one on, 'In the Morning'.. like it. Think you'll like Atmosphere.

What about Keith Murray for more old school stuff?

I know him mostly through stuff he's done with others on Jive records and Def Jam.

I like NF’s warm up songs. His songs have taste and feeling, unlike some other rappers.

I just haven't paid attention to newer rap. I like Dizzy Rascal in UK and The Streets and some Tiny Tempeh. Miss Dynamite was fantastic.

In US Childish Gambino and J Cole are probably the most recent rappers I've listened to.

I'm a bit stuck in the 90s

I definitely understand that the growls aren't for everyone, but you gave credit where credit was due. When I first discovered more extreme metal, I admit I was a bit wary of the vocal style and had a bit of difficulty digesting it. I ended up making friends with a phenomenal local band called Turbid North and things suddenly clicked for me. However, if you liked the non aggressive parts, their album "Damnation" features entirely clean vocals and is very mellow. Excellent mash up blues, jazz and prog elements with all the darkness of more extreme forms of metal. Mikael Akerfeldt (Opeth) has done work with Steve Wilson (of Porcupine Tree, check them out!) with a collaborative effort called Storm Corrosion. Perfect veg out music.

What about Pelican? Sludgy stoner instrumental prog metal. Or Pomegranate Tiger, an insane instrumental metal band for fans of Between The Buried And Me and Periphery.

SO much music! SO much prog progeny. (Ha!) Definitely heard of PT, Spock's Beard, Dream Theater, etc...countless others. But I keep thinking "Oh, that's sounds just like ... from ..." it's almost like a game. I have a friend that keeps playing me newer stuff and gets pissed when I point stuff out.
Hard for me to give up the originals, especially when there is so much else out there as far as genre choices that I haven't even explored.
I'll never tire of my originals, and I can still be thrilled for others' choices.
If I want metal I have my tried and true choices there, too. Although I will secretly listen to your offerings...I think the best metal out there is prog-riffed. Don't tell anyone!

Oh yeah, Famous Blue Raincoat!
Love Cohen. Have to be in a mood, though.

1,000 Kisses Deep is probably my favorite song by him.
