Hey guys. I set up my 57 gallon today, and the substrate is play sand. I didn't rinse it quite enough, and now the tank is so murky I can't see an inch into it, even with the lights on. I have carbon running in the filter, so I hope that helps a bit.... Will the murkiness eventually clear out?

Thanks,

-f_f!

It will eventually settle more than likely in 12-48 hours maybe a few more days if your REALLY unlucky. But I've added play sand it the past and it was extremely murky and settled over night. If you have a polishing pad add it into your filter and it will help. Also small water changes if it doesn't settle in the first 48 hours

Okay, thanks. I was scared for a moment, I was thinking, "Have I made a mistake adding this sand". Fingers crossed that it settles quickly. (Not that it really matters, lol. I was just worrying.)

i would turn the filters OFF, as then it will settle quicker, plus the fact that sand cant be good for the impellers...

I used this in the past, I found that it was very murky at the start but never really settled properly, probably due to my filter. I just did a couple of 50% water changes over the next couple of days which sorted it out. When adding the water back in you need to make sure it doesn't stir up the sand again so pour it over your hand as it goes in.

Okay, thanks. I will turn the filter off. I was thinking that it wasn't helping the cause..... Thanks.
