I hear people on this forums talking about muppies (molly X guppy hybrid) and just wondering if anyone has actually seen one? Owned one? Or bred one? Cuz i've never seen them anywhere.

The reason you don't see them is that they are extremely fragile and difficult to raise. Also, getting guppies and mollies to breed in the first place doesn't always work and they don't always produce viable fry. When they do, only a few survive and, the high mortality rate and the fact that they aren't realy all that special-looking means no LFS would stock them and no one would breed them on a commercial scale anyway. Also, considering lots of mollies (most actualy) and many fancy guppies are hybrids themselves, getting a hybrid molly to breed with a hybrid 'guppy' is even more difficult than it once would have been.

The reason i wanted to know was i saw this awesome picture of one on the forums Pic of Muppy and it didn't look like just another normal molly

I bought a mysterious livebearer similar to the pic. Can muppies or gollies breed?

I just wanted to add...that picture that you saw, ARXC08, is not actually a Molly/Guppy cross. It's a type of short-finned Molly, or Poecilia Sphenops. :) It's a good example of what a Molly/Guppy hybrid may look like though. :)

VENOM - If you bought a fish that looks like that, you most likely got Poecilia Sphenops. You're very lucky though, I haven't seen any out there that look like that! :D

Edit: I can't spell...:p
