you photo didnt work, can u try again please?

what sort of prices were you looking at?

Hi, didn't try to upload a picture, they are mountain trumpet snails, the cone ones that burrow under the sand. The largest is about 1cm, the smallest are a millimetre or so. They're free, just asking for recorded/special delivery as I don't want them in the postage system too long. So, it's about £5 for 40-50.

Thanks J.

Sorry if I am being stupid but are mountain trumpet snails the same as malaysian trumpet snails? Can't find anything on mountain snails.

Woops, my mistake  Too late at night! I stand corrected.

So, same as above, just postage guys.

Can someone give me some info on these please? Its just im changing my substrate to sand very soon and wanted to get some snails to help lower the chance of the gas build up

I have live plants, but the other info I found say to help with population, its best to have a loach of some sort to help keep them from breeding too much and taking over the tank! I have some clown loaches and a common plec, would they do the job?

If so, then I would like to take some of these off your hands, and im from pompey so could just collect some off you if thats ok

cheers

Scobie, I've stated the postage will be £5 ish for special delivery, can't remember the exact amount, but it's roughly that. If I remember correctly it was £5.50. Let's say that if anyone's interested.

Dave, they disappear under the sand substrate during the day and rotate it all so they help keep the gases down in the sand. They do do breed though, I try to give some away each month when I do some pruning in my tank. I have some small loaches, they eat the ramshorn snails, but not these guys. Clown loaches may well eat them though, I'm not sure as I've never kept clowns. HTH

Cool, well I will message you nearer the time that I sort out the new sand substrate, and hopefully if its ok with you, I will take some off your hands....In the mean time, i will find the best fish to get for keeping numbers down, as I dont want a tank full of the things!

I have seen what out of control snail breeding can do!

Hoping to grab some sand asap as I want to get rid of the stones as its hiding far too much rubbish for my liking!

Ok Dave no probs, I use argos play sand, looks great!! Let me know when you need some and we'll arrange a pick up time. Hope larger loaches will eat them.

So, still have them going free (+) P&P :)

Your clowns will make light work of these.

So, is that a good thing, or are you saying they wont stand a chance to do their job before their eaten?

It really depends on the size of your clowns. I had to put hundreds in my big tank to ensure some snails escaped into the sand. Now they breed like mad, my clowns keep the numbers down but I have a dozen loach over 6".

I have 3 baby clowns, the 2 largest are about 2", I got the 3rd recently and he is still about 1"
