can someone tell me a good sizebowl for him.
and does he need the water heated and a filter.
and is their anything i can add to the water to give
him a boost becuase he looks depressed and not in the best of health.
thanks.

Azoo tanks are nice. The are filtered and have lighting. It's 7" x 7" x 12"(light). I have 4 of them. And I suggest BettaMax to perk him up a bit.

i always wondered what the azoo tanks you talk about look like. thanks for the pic, pretty cool ;)

Here is a better picture of what it looks like "fully loaded" (bucket seats are optional):

They have the azoo TANK part at Petsmart, but no light or filter for the setup, otherwise I'd probably consider it. Also, all of my betta tanks have lids, do you use a lid for those at all?

No lids on mine. I have a 1 inch space between the water level and the rim.

Mine lives in a standard 2.5g tank you can get at most LFS. With light, heat, thermometer, gravel, and decor, I spent about $40 US.

Horatio seems pretty darn happy with the setup. :fish:

Ok, Betta masters... what IS the deal with filters for betta tanks? Obviously they keep the water cleaner longer, but doesn't the agitation upset the still-water loving betta?

I guess agitation in the water agitated my betta to get Ich.

we only use sponge filters in our breeding tank (after spawn is hatched and free swimming) and in our grow out tank. filters aren't necessary for the adults as wee do complete 100% water changes every 3 days in all our glass milk bottles (juveniles) and complete 100% water changes in our 4 way divided tanks once a week and keep the bare bottom (we don't use gravel) clean on a daily basis.

Personally, I'm a big fan of the Lee Kritter Keepers. Currently, I just have the small ones that hold about a gallon of water, but plan on getting atleast one of the next size bigger. Big plus - the gallon one looks like it's bigger than those Azoo containers, and cost quite a bit less (atleast they do here). And they come with a lid. I think you can also get sponge filters for them.

Hey there,
I keep my bettas in a 2.5 gallon and a 2 gallon. The 2.5 gallon is a mini bow that came with a filter and he didn't like the current one bit so i took out the actual filter and added a bubble bar instead just to keep the water moving a bit. my 2 gallon came with an undergravel and air pump therefor it also keeps the water moving but doesn't disturb my betta whatsoever.

I recommend you get a tank of at least 2 gallons, to give the betta plenty of room seeing how he was kept in a community tank. Most articles you read about bettas say they only need tiny bowls, but I think they do much better with more room and bubbles.

Here is a great link to check out though:

hope this helps. :fun:

Val's home

This is where I keep my betta. He seems quite happy! Always working on his bubble nest :) I got this at Petsmart. It comes with a divider so that you can keep to bettas in there, but I dont want to do that because I would think they'd get too stressed seeing eachother all the time. (Unless it was a female) Plus with the divider it just doesn't seem like very much room. Its on my computer desk so he gets lots of light from the lamp that is next to the desk. I think it was called an Aquascape.
