I have moved many times with many tanks and many fish.... (15,000+ fish) and not lost one.... up to 8 hour trips.... I merely remove all big rocks and ornaments from the tank.... syphon water down to about 6"depth (fish still in there)... then 3 or 4 guys carry the tank to the removals van..... when I get to the destination.... I set up the tank where I want it and fill her up at a trickle flow..... Never had a problem in moving.... (in fact... I'm moving again in October which will be more like a 15 hour trip.... and I'll use the same method with confidence)

Yes, haven't moved house. But moved tanks a few times.

It's only the filter you need to worry about. Just keep that wet & try to keep the time it is off to a minimum.

so as long as the filter is kept wet then you could fill the entire tank full of new treated tap water ?

always thought u needed to keep some water.

thanks

Yep thats the key. The filter houses all the microbiology that breaks waste down in the water. Keep that in a bucket of aquarium water or if its an external leave it full when you disconnect it.

Its all about the filter:p

Yep, I have a very large Eheim 2080. I think it's capacity is like 15L or something.

Whenever someone I know is setting up a small tank, I given them a load of my bio media - enough to fill the biological section of their filter. They then have an instant cycle.
