Hi i'm going to be moving house in the next month or 2, (somerset) i have an established Fluval 75g tank, it has holes in the bottom of the tank and on the cabinet drilled for the filter so i would have to do a 100% water change.

I'm worried that when i get the tank over to the new house i would have to do a 100% water change and get it up to temperature before putting my fish back in :(

I have been growing up my Severums for years and i'm worried about losing them in the move.

I have rang all local shops and they all say they have no space, i have no idea what i can do.

I cant run my external filter on a tub or anything because its got hard plastic tubes made to fit through the holes in the tank.

Help!

Can you not get some water carriers from a lfs or camping shop to keep a percentage of your water during the move?

With regards to the filter pipes, you could buy some flexible hosing to run it temporarily into a bucket, but as long as the media is kept wet, it should be ok without this for a same day move.

thing is how can i carry 75 gallon of water in a tub lol or even half of it for that matter :p

Where can i get flexible tubing for a fluval 305?

My lfs hire out 2.5 and 5 gallon containers. Failing this, camping shops and the like will sell them.

Flexible hose is easy to get for the fluval as it is the standard set up for them on normal tanks.I replaced mine recently got it from lfs but they have it on ebay.

My LFS said they only do 3ftx18"x18" tubs

It will need to be this big cos my Severums are big.

I'm less worried about my big sevs because they are tough, but worried about my 5 x 1" Rotkeil Severums that i have.

just put the media in a tub with tank water in and put your filter in the back of the car and away you go but for the severums they may die on the trip depending on how long it is :good:

can't seem to find them on ebay :S

The new house is only a 10 minute walk from my current house :p

You know you don't need to keep any of the water right? All you need is your mature filter media which will be fine for several hours as long as it's kept wet in old tank water. You can completely dismantle the tank if you want. Regarding moving the fish. Get some large fish bags from your LFS (mine just give them to me for free), get a large styrofoam container, put the fish in the container in their bags, stuff any free space full of old newspaper, put the lid on and seal it shut for safety and temperature regulation. You can put a heat pack in there if you think they will get cold but with large bags of water and the styrofoam insulating it they will probably be fine for a while. Move the tank get it up and running. Add some hot water either from your kettle or try and get warm water out of your mixer tap to fill the tank with. Make sure the water is dechlorinated and the temperature is right. Switch on your filter and add fish.

Really because all the shops i asked that question to said without mature water they will die.

its not the water thats mature its your filters media. as long as this stays wet and doesnt dry out then you should be fine. you can stick the filter into a large tub and put as many of the fish in too to keep it healthy and to help the fish out a bit. any other fish can go in another tub without a filter as long as you change some water now and then. keep the smaller fish in the unfiltered tub as they will produce less ammonia helping the cause.

remember that fish are transported from the other side of the world in polystyrene boxes and survive for days in the same water so im sure a 10 minute drive will cause no bother.

I'm gonna do this if i cant get anyone to hold my fish...

Put the fish in a big tub with filter and heater running, dismantle the tank (thats gonna be hard as its not been dismantled for 5 years and all that algae around the filter etc is gonna make it hard to loosen the filter going through the bottom of the tank), fill the tank up with water, wait for the temp to get to normal, then slowly put them back in.

I am due to move house soon also and have serious fear about moving my 6 footer - currently contemplating buying a second tank to help with the transfer.

If its a 10 mins walk its going to be a good situation the longest part of the job will be filling the tank back up - my move is about 20 mins in the car and I am not overly worried.

As Matt said - fish come to us from all over the world very few are bred in the UK so the odds are on your side. Just keep thinking positive and make a plan and stick to it and you will be fine :) However being in a similar situation to your self I totally appreciate how daunting it really is.
