my 2 betta's tend to hide under my pump/filter......are they getting to still waters coz they prefer it to the moving water???

i thought it might be coz they were new to the tank but the male swims round a bit then goes n hides

ive never seen the female swim about ever

so......still water or movin...or doesnt it matter

My betta was in a big glass cookie jar. He seemed OK. Then I put him in a 10 gallon tank with air and filtration. He really seems to like the water flow from the filter. Sometimes it looks like he just keeps swimming back and forth through the flow for the fun of it. I have other fish that I feed flakes to, but I still feed betta bites to Mr.Blue. I feed him a few bites at a time, and he chases them around in the current, then comes back looking for more. So back to your question......I don't think it matters.

one of mine loves the filter outflow, he rides it down and swims back up for more......another betta in a small tank with a bubble wand HATES, hates hates the bubbles,it flips him out, I turn it on for a couple of hours each day and he throws a fit the entire time, they're all different

Ive heard that betta's prefer still water because they come from puddles and rice flats where there is no water flow. It probably depends on the size of your tank, if you have a large tank where the betta can chose to stay away from the current that would be best. If not it probably doesn't matter, i had a betta in a 50 litre tank with medium water flow and he loved it, it makes them more active! :)

Every betta is different, that's one of the beauties about this fish. They all have different characters. I have a male in a community tank and his favourite place is up against the inflow of the filter. He stays there for hours watching the world go by, and then he's off doing his rounds, making sure that he gets the respect he think he deserves and then he's back on the intake slats of the filter :)

New to fish, I have to agree with everyone. I had a betta who never moved and seemed sad so I put him in a 10 gallon tank and he was so happy. :D

I got another betta for a 5.5 gallon tank and he hides all day in the plants.

I have a third betta in a betta bowl (.5 gallons) who swims around and is happy. But my fourth betta in another .5 gallon bowl sits around and doesn't seem to happy, so I am getting a larger tank today with a filter.

I think the bettas do have different personalities. Some feel safer in the small tank like a puddle. And some prefer to "get out and see the world" in a larger tank.

allot of them dont like strong currents say if i had a fluval4 in a 2 foot tank they would hate that ...well most fish would. one sugestion if you think its the water flow might be to add a spray bar to the filter or even to (if you have this function on your filter) turn the little flow adjustment thingy to make it less powerfull.
