I bought a few red finned tetras yesterday and when I went to feed them this morning, found that one of them had mouth rot......idiot that I am, I didn't really check before I put them in. When I took it back to the store, the guy told me not to worry about the rest of my fish. That these tetras have a "genetic" problem that sometimes causes this and its an individual thing. Sounds "fishy" to me. Should I worry about the rest of my fish? Thanks for any input......

If they have mouth rot you will need to treat with an anti internal bacteria med.

That's what I thought and pressed for....even told the guy that if my fish come down with it in the next few...that I'd be knocking on his door. Never had any problems with this fish store before.....thought they'd back themselves up by giving me the medicine gratis. Guess I'll have to get it myself.
Thanks!

their mouth looks like it is 'disintegrating' or looks like its getting bigger in a fungally sort of way.........sorry c**p description but i cant think how else to put it.

>>> you will need to treat with an anti internal bacteria med.

Only in extreme circumstances does the bacteria invade the internal body cavities. In most cases, simply putting the fish in clean water, with good filtration and adequate water changes will allow the fishes own immune systems defeat the bacteria. A topical anti bacteria treatment will hasten recovery.

As with most bacterial problems, good hygiene and clean water.

Thanks for all the replies. Sure enough, I lost one of my fav fishes soon after. I went to the store and read them the riot act (talked to the owner this time). He gave me the correct medicine gratis and a promise to replace all the fish after the tank was stabilized.

Sorry for your loss, R.I.P.
