I am on day 4 of treating my tank for whitespot. One guppy died 2 days ago, but nothing has appeared on the other fish as yet. However, a dwarf red honey gourami that I bought at the weekend (before the guppy showed signs of whitespot) has now developed white lips and is hanging about not eating. I've checked my meds. guide and I cannot treat for fungus while treating for white spot ((INTERPET No. 6 and INTERPET No. 8).

Opinions and advice please.

What can I do for the gourami in the meantime?

Sounds like mouth rot which i think is more bacterial than fungal.
How big is the tank and what is the stocking of it? Have you checked the water stats recently and what filtration
are you using. How much water are you changing a week?

125l
6 pristella tetras
4 guppies
3 otos
2 dwarf red honey gouramis.

Stats normal. Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate all 0. Ph 7

However water is cloudy - began last week after having broccilli in my tank. Big mistake. Still cloudy after wh. spot treatment. Filtration is Fluval 3+.

Normally change 20% once per week. Due to change today before second dosing for whitespot.

Recommended treatment alongside whitespot please?

Once the mouth rots away sadly never know a fish to make it, sorry.

Gourami died tonight, after 24 hours of white on the lips. Is this likely to spread?

Read the article and the answer is obviously yes. How do I treat whitespot and mouthrot at the same time?? Is there one product, before I poison my other fish?

You can treat this with Formaline. the ideal amount being 1.35Miligrams of Formaline. If you put more than that the fish would die. Methalyne blue should also be added till the tank is light blue.

If you have any questions please mail me [email protected]

Forgot to mention to add some Salt (Sodium Chloride)

My fish are going through the same thing now. One of my dwarf gouamis died this morning after only 5-6 hours of symptoms. The other fish have developed to the last stages of the disease within about 10 hours. I'd recoment acting fast, this disease may take out my entire tank in a few days. Wilder recomended maracyn-two, although i havent been able to use it yet.

If its killing fish fast then its most likely columnaris which is bacterial. If your temperature is high try and lower it slowly to as low as you can keep your fish comfortable and use a med for bacterial diseases.

Thanks for the advice. Would the salt not affect the gourami and the otos?

For someone to come and say just add salt is pretty reckless imo. No advice given either to the type and quantity.

Otos dont like salt so dont add it. Stick to the bacterial meds and frequent water changes.
