Hey all. I picked up some rainbowfish last week, and I noticed that 1 of them is starting to develop mouth fungus. Is there a certain med that I should look for?

Thanks

Hi Jen,

I bought some rainbows last week as well and one of them developed a mouth fungus. In the past I have used melafix with success for mouth fungus. However, this time I turned up the heat a bit and added aquarium salt and that also did the trick.

I have kept and bred M. boesmani and they developed this so called fungus around the mouth area in my early days of maintaining them, I was advised by an old aquarist friend that a little bit of cooking salt added to their tank water coupled with a higher pH 8.0 - 8.5 would soon eliviate the problem. Lo and Behold he was right, the fungus or white substance cleared up within a mater of days and the fish looked much more colourful, healthy and vibrant.

Thanks for the advice guys. I unfortunately can't add salt to the tank for my corries. The pH is low (6.4) for my plants, so I can't raise that either. I picked up some Pimafix and will be doing dose 3 tonight. If that doesn't work... I'll have to figure something else out.
