I recently took a motoro sting ray off someones hands because they couldn't take it with them where they were headed. It is about 5 - 6 inches and in a 2 x 4 x 1.5 foot (depth x length x height) tank right now.

I was wondering if anyone knew any info that would assist me in the future of keeping a ray. THANKS!

As im sure you know you are going to need a much larger tank in the future, motoros are one of the largest commonly traded stingrays and females can easily reach 18" wide so a tank with a minimum of a 6x2.5 foot surface area is required and bigger is certainly prefferable, they also have a large appettite so a big filter with a high turn over is a must.
The good news is that they are probably the easiest stingray to keep, they are a bit more forgiving of water parameters than most so you dont have to be as anal about water changes, 25% once a week is usually fine provided the nitrates dont rise above 50ppm, and they are hearty eaters which can usually be weened onto big meaty foods like whitebait, cockle and mussel fairly quickly, my two even eat pellets!!

Wow. Thanks for the info. I've got a 125 wide in mind. It's 72 x 24 x 17 inches.
I was also thinking about the 240 long. It's 96 x 24 x 25 inches. (but then there's the cost factor)

Do motoros grow quickly?

Growth isnt amazingly rapid but you can expect juvinile specimins to increase in width by 2 or 3 inches a year when fed and maintained properly.

The 240 long isnt really suitable, what you are looking for is more width than length and the height of the tank isnt important in the slightest from the rays point of view, a tank of at least 30 inches wide front to back is prefferable and 3 or even 4 feet wide would be better. I keep my two in a tank with the dimensions of 66x30x24" and really feel that now they are getting bigger that the tank is too small and am making plans to upgrade them to a 96x36x30" at the nearest oppertunity.

you will need a tank thats 84 long and 36 wide a a min size for a motoro

I'd think about looking into a tank specifically for rays.

Something like 72"Lx30"Wx18"H would be a perfect minimum for your motoro.

Been researching rays alot lately myself lately and whilst I am no expert I have very quickly found out that in my 72"Lx24"Wx24"H i am restricted to only 2 species of ray that could live their life out comfortably.

P. Scobina and P. Ocellata (sp?) Both of which are *supposed* to reach a maximum disc size of 12".
