We've had 2 batches of fry from 2 guppies about 2 weeks apart. (YEY!! Out first babies!! 4 in the first, 5 in the second)

Unfortunately within 2 days of giving birth the mothers died.. the first time I thought it was a one off - obviously gutted - but maybe just one of those things, but the second one can't be right.

We have 2 females left, one of them looks pregnant like the others were before the popped out their sprogs. The other isn't pregnant. However, she has developed a slight curve just after her body.

Should I be worried? I'm thinking worst case here. If a parasite was in the water, and it killed the first guppy, then the next, and now it is in another... what can I do?

Anyone else see anything else like this?

Thanks,

Sven.

its there any visible symptoms that you can think of that was on the other two females, or and odd behaviour, rubbing/flicking?

Only one of them shown any type of problems. She hated the light and hid at the bottom and sat there most of the time.

The other one seemed fine :-(

Although my mollys never died after giving birth, they often fared pretty badly due to the constant harrasment of the male prior to birth and after.

IME they always looked very patchy with scales loose etc after birth but fully recovered. maybe is the same problem for you!

Hey we've had the same problem. All five batches of fry have resulted in mom dying with no prior symptoms. Although, some of mine died within a few days with the last two it was 3-4 weeks later. We have three more ready very soon and my husband I were just commenting earlier today that we hoped the moms survived this time. Water stats have checked out good each time, I don't really know why it happens. Candi

what size are they? sometimes if too small they can get fry stuck in the birth canal, causing a lot of stress that could kill them, and even with some being 4 weeks later thats when they'd be giving birth to the next lot. or if the fry are quite big

My 3 females have had about 3 sets of fry, and this time all 3 females have died not long after having the fry. It is strange because conditions have not changed from the 1st time til the 3rd time. Water parameters have been the same, the tank is fully cycled, theres nothing different at all. Strangely they all develloped symptoms of what looked like whitespot but to a large degree.

Would be interested to know if anyone can explain why this happens. I'm running on the assumption at the moment that perhaps my 3 experienced moms were at the end of their lives and they held off til they dropped their fry before passing away.

One of my guppies died whilst giving birth :-( She had so many eggs and ate to much that she didnt have alot of room in her tummy and therefore died :(
