Which type of danio is good looking, colourful, and hardy.
Do they get along with tetra's and harlequins,as I have a very peaceful tank, they all get along what I have in the 30 gallon tank.
Thanks.

i think giant danios are the best looking ones by far but they do grow to around 4" long a shoal of them might be pushing it! leopard danios also look very nice and nowhere near the size of there giant cousins :good:

ive always found danios to be very hardy if u can get tetras to survive danios should be no problem. only thing is they like to jump but so long as you have a good lid thats no problem

i dont think any danio is aggresive so i dont think you can go wrong with any

Quite like the pearl danio just looked them up, want no fin nippers.
To be honest don't like jumping fish as It makes be worry when doing tank maintance, had enough of new harlequins being jumpy.
Thanks for the reply, yes I agree would be pushing it with giant danio.

if you dont like jumpers danios are probly best avoided they all have a tedndancy to jump when startled and there very easily startled

what sort of tetras do you have? maybe another shoal of a different type would look good something of a tottally different colour?

Won't bother then if there jumpy they make me nervous.
To be honest bit fed up of tetra's now wanted something different.
Had gouramis but no go in them.
Livebearers no been there done that.
Fish I have are.

2 x ray tetra left out of 5 had them two and half years, but was very big when I got them think there old now.
8 black neons.
5 harlequins
4 glow lights

Thinking of lemon tetra's at one stage.
I want something with colour as its rather drab the tank.

cherry barbs are coulurful and are not like other barbs
bloodfin tetras and rummy nose are very active and colourful tetras
american rams are peaceful and nice
although you said you had tried livebearers i strongly recommend guppys
hatchet fish are class to watch.
lemon danios are very nice

what about bottom feeders?

never kept flame tetra but i currently have serpae tetras and i love them and i hate tetras  there like little pirahnas when u feed em lol great to watch, also there more mid to bottom of the tank so they liven that area up :good:

Had cherry barbs only managed to have one quite a long time out of three, then he devoloped a tumour in the belly region.
Had rummy nose tetras and neon tetra's had no luck with them.
Had no luck what so ever with guppys always died, longest I kept a few was 7 months.

Might look into the serpae tetra's.

Got corys in another tank panda corys had them two years.

i highly recommend serpaes and since i normally like fish that eat serpaes its unusual to get that recommendation from me

Ok mojodex thanks.

With all that guppies can come down with that what made me look into fish health.

Although Zebra Danios are not the most colourfull of all the Danios I think when they are in motion together the golds, silvers and blues are pretty vibrant. Also I am a pretty slow cleaner and my water changes take me a while and i've never had a case of a jumping Zebra Danio before, I'm not saying they won't, only that mine haven't. If not then I think Lemon Tetras are a beautiful fish. :)

Thanks, I know most fish can be jumpers, but some jump at the least little thing, then I'm nervous.

If you're going to do danios, then I'd look out for something a bit more unusual and colourful, like the glowlight danio. Just been reading an article if PFK magazine where they recommend the new danio species over the usual zebras and leopards because of their hardiness. I have been very tempted by the danio khyatit advertised by Wholesale Tropicals.

Thanks dwarfgourami will look into the glow light danio.
