I had a relationship with an Oscar some time ago (1988) - we just bonded - he definitely recognised me.... my favourite alltime fish (16") & I got him for free cause someone wanted to chuck him out. (too aggressive for the rest of his tank). - Tiger barbs/ and the like.

I paid R40 (Rands) each for 6 discuss (knowing they're around R150 each) just cause the lady was too lazy to look up the price, & when I got home, there were 7 in the bag - did'nt go back either cause I asked her how much and she said R40, I then said I'll have all six of 'em..(just happened to be 7 & she did'nt count).

Rand/pound exchance currently sitting at R14 to the pound, so work it out.

Lovely looking fish, but I hardly ever see him! Lazy, too - he won't even shift from his favourite rock when I take it out of the water, I have to shake it around a few times before he bothers to move...


Cheapest - approx half of my main tank inhabitants were given to me free by an emigrating friend. 3ft tank and a dozen fish, all free.

Not sure about the cheapest I've actually bought, probably some neons or something for a couple of quid. (I'm not the best bargain hunter!)

My most expensive fish were my two keyhole cichlids, $12 each. Cheapest per my pearl danios, at 60 cents each - the stores have apparently realized they're pretty now, because if I ever want more, they'll be $3.

Amano Shrimp- 3.79 each which was my most expensive.

Most expensive: Flame Angel for $65 I think -- one of my fav fishes cause of its coloration but just decided it didnt want to eat anymore one day and died about a week later

Least Expensive: 2 M and 5 F guppies all for 6.95 or roughly buck a piece -- pretty good price for breeders that will produce plenty of live food

Most so far is £15 for my betta (i keep getting told I was ripped off by other pet shops)

for £8......

5 fancy guppies, 10 emperor tetra and 2 dwarf gourami.

My partner knows the owner so we got them cheaper anyway, but the woman misunderstood him and she sold us all 17 fish for the price of the tetra.

He also gave us two tanks. one 20g and one 5g.

and he gives us 'credit' lol.


I still prefer to goto maidenhead aquatics but my partner shouts at me lol.

I goto maidenhead for their advice and to see their fish, then I ask the other shop to get in the fish I want lol.
