i'm getting some peacock moss today mainly for my shrimp and i'm attaching it to my amtra redwood and my ship ornament.is it possible to lay the moss down and have it attach without tying it with fishing line?

If you just lay it down then it will come off on its own almost instantly. It takes a few days to a week for a moss to attach onto something, the more porous the material the easier it is for it to grab onto ie.wood, volcano rock, etc.
No matter what you are putting it onto you will need to either tie it down or hold it down with a rock otherwise it will just float away in the current from your filter.

a few days to a week... more like months

Superglue works if you're not happy with fishing line, although it does go white in tanks.

thanks for the advice guys.i'll try tying it with fishing line

superglue works, but fishing lines better for moss imo, because the glue also sticks the moss to the moss

Superglue also turns the moss white, as I found out the other week. lol

Superglue under water turns everything while. I've managed to keep it to a dull roar without much dislodging and it grows to cover the glue after a while.

I use superglue for anubias and Java ferns, but I use cotton thread for mosses; the glue's too messy for moss, I find.

Oh; if you use thread, make sure you pull it tight so any fish (catfish and loaches are most likely) can't get stuck between the thread and the wood or whatever; I've had to cut a few free at odd times; it's not fun, for you or the fish!

used some thread.its sitting on nicely.cant wait till it starts to flourish
