Moss balls/Zebra mussel detection

I have some moss balls in quarantine and was wondering how long it takes for a zebra mussel to reach 2 mm? Or when it starts producing a shell?
I figure at this size I should be able to feel/see them.
I know that they reach sexual maturity in approximately 2 yrs. Have found lots of life cycle charts but none with how long each stage takes.
Right now am giving a thorough check over weekly.
