Mosquito Fish

Hi...I have 2 female mosquito fish and 6 babies that are about 3 weeks old now. One of the females has been pregnant since the beginning of July and still hasn't given birth. I read somewhere that they can absorb their babies. How would I know if this is happening??

They normally don't absorb the babies unless they are stressed and starving. If they do absorb the developing embryos, the fish will become slim.

I suggested deworming fish in the other thread about this so perhaps try that.

Make sure you have lots of plants in the tank because Gambusia species regularly eat their young.

Mosquito fish pregnant...no babies yet

My mosquito fish has been pregnant since the beginning of July...no babies yet. Water is good...no threats or males, but still no babies. I have heard that they can absorb their babies. If she is doing this, how would I know? She still looks VERY pregnant. HELLLLPPPP PLEASE
