What size tank are they currently in? (The ladies, I mean)
The 3 gallon for Edward is close to the ideal for a betta. I personally wouldn't go below 5 gallons for one, but they should have lots of space. If the two girls are under 10 gallons, I would definitely separate them or at minimum give them LOTS of space to hide...plants, hidey holes, options to get away from each other. They absolutely shouldn't be in anything smaller than 6 gallons.
