Here are the readings from my tank including a tap water reference reading. I have not bothered with all readings each day other than always doing Nitrite and Ammonia. Nitrite readings on the kit I have been using, (Hagen Liquid Test) do not go below 0.1mg/l so not 100% sure if they are zero or 0.1mg/l. First fish, 2 platies, stocked on 8th December. Reused gravel (washed), plants and bog wood from a cold water set up.

No water changes as yet other than topping of the tank for evaporation.

I re-tested the pH after not having done so for a while and it is showing a drop to 6.5, is this OK?

The levels of Ammonia and Nitrite have never seemed to rise very much and they have now been at or near zero for a few days, is it safe to assume I am near the end of the cycle?

The tank is fairly heavily planted but I have lost a couple of plants over the last 10 days. I assume this to be due to the reduced nutrient load created by smaller and fewer fish than the gold fish they used to be kept with. Yesterday I dosed the tank for the first time with a plant food, nitrate free. It says this does not effect the cycle. Will this increase algae growth as well? I have some brown algae on the powerheads and the bog wood has some green algae, glass and gravel clear.

Thanks

Jerry
