Maybe not. You could just scoop water up from the top then check for babies in the water you scooped out. Its a simple plan that I used for my fry tank.

No problem just make sure you check the water for babies before you dump it. I wouldn't want any little guys being drained.

btw how much water should i change each week? 25%?

30 platy fry in a 10 gallon tank shouldn't need more than about 3 gallon water change each week to stay healthy at first. As they get larger it will obviously take more water to make the needed improvement. By the time they are full grown, the tank will have shrunk and become too small no matter how many water changes you do. After the first week, just keep an eye on the fry swimming near the gravel vac and you should not lose any fry at all that way. If one starts up the vac, stop the flow and let it swim out.

At about 7 weeks, I sold quite a few of mine at a club auction. I was actually surprised at how well received the healthy juveniles were. It must be that people were just tired of the poor health quality available in the LFS. More and more fish are coming from further away all the time. The shipping is hard on the fish.

i live in a really small city, we dont have auctions for fish, only one lil pet store >.<;;

aww, one on lil fry you can see the hint of a micky mouse, well just the ears really, it's so cute, and on some of the older lil fry have little speckles on them, they're so cute ^o^,
i don't know who is the mother to the speckled fry, but i'm a 100% sure who the mom is to the little pinkish fry ^^;
