More New Fish

Hi Barracuda518 :)

I guess some people are just perfectionists. ;) I have a few corys that I never even knew what they were, but if it's a loner in a tank, I'll buy it for sure. One day perhaps someone will help me identify them. :D

I meant I don't know how many specimens of the species I have. I don't know how many C. aeneus I have. I don't remember how many C. Virginiea/Sangama or C. Pulcher variant #3 I bought 3 years ago. I don't remember how many Super schwartzi I bought a month ago! haha

I only have species ID questions about the first pair that I bought. Maybe I will get a good pic of them now with the new camera and stroll over to PlanetCatfish and find out for sure.

Do I count albinos and long fins separately? Are long fin pandas, Asian farm bred pandas and wild caught pandas 1 or 2 or 3? I have regular peppers, longfin regular peppers and albino long fin peppers. How many is that?

Hey Inchworm,

I have some spotted cories that I will never know what they are because there are so many out there, it would be impossible to know what they are without knowing where they were caught. I bought them at a LFS, so I will never know. I can just go by what some people have told me they thought they were. I have 3 species that fall into that catergory.

Hey Jollysue,

I would count wild caught and "farm raised" as the same. I count albinos and regulars as two species also. I would also count long finned as a different one too.

I dont know how many C. venezuelanus and C. schultzei I have at this point either. The spawning groups I got from Frank are spawning regularly.

I believe I counted 31 not counting the 2 Brochis species, the Scleromystax, and the Aspidoras. I counted the unknown pair as leucomelas, which is what I think they are. I counted the long fin C. aeneus and regular C. aeneus as 2 and the long fin regular, long fin albino and regular C. paleatus as three.

But, although I am tired and could be seeing things, I swear I just looked an albino C. arcuatus over very closely. One of the new arcuatus that Bryan sent me is an albino! Maybe it will get it's color back tomorrow. I think I will be on the floor of the bathroom tomorrow taking pics of the arcuatus.

Does that give me another one? :D

I also can lay the blame for my cory collection on Inchworm! She has done so much for so many of us and been so encouraging whenever problems arise. She held my hand through my first spawning of Paleatus, cheered for my first purchase of lasers (who actually turned out to be orange lasers and not red lasers), was a shoulder to cry on for my poor lost Adofois, and also gave me great help and advice with my swordtails.

My cory collection doesn't even compare to you guys, I've only got green lasers, orange lasers, regular fin Paleatus, Schwartzi, Sodalis and Julii (and the temporary albino Aeneus gang). I had, for a while, Leucomelas, Melanistis and Hastatus but gave them away to make more room for the lasers.

There's so many more species I'd love to have, especially some of the long fins, but between corys, swordtails and bettas, it's difficult not to get pulled in too many different directions. I don't know how you all do it!

It helps to not work two jobs! Polardbear

Where are those pics, Barracuda?

No sigh of an albino C. arcuatus/skunk today. I terrorized them and took the PetSmart lighthouse rock cave out to see them all. I guess he was just sleepy, and I woke him up. He is colored up today. So it stays at 31, unless the Scleromystax and Aspidoras count.

Im working on the pictures.

I have never seen a albino skunk cory. It would be interesting to see one. I dont even know if you will find one. Skunk cories dont usually breed in the home aquarium, which makes an albino that much more rare.

I am counting Scleromystax in my count, but I dont have any Aspidoras.

Im busy right now setting up a 10 gallon for my C. weitzmani, so those pictures of the Brochis are gonna have to wait :D

Sure do understand that pics are suppose to wait. Whose C. weitzmani. I an quite fond of mine already. I had thought to keep the wc and Frank's separate, but as soon as they are a little bigger I think I will combine. I read that aquarium bred fish breed more easily. And my pandas are a mix of Chas. Epstein's breeders and my wc from Bryan. They are spawning fools.

So I thought I might combine the two groups of weitzmani. :shifty: Of course then they won't be F1's but close enough.

If I add the Aspidoras and Schleromystax then it is 33.

So far my breeding count raised to young juvies is only 6. I had the San Juans but killed them moving them. I may have some others in a net now I don't know.

Here is a quick picture of spme of the C. weitzmani before they went into their new tank. Im going to start feeding them live blackworms along with the food they always have to get them in spawning condition and have a try at that.

They need some more food. They were in a 55 gallon with a bunch of Porthole and Flagtail catfish and they werent getting enough food. But that will change.

They are nice and healthy looking C. weitzmanis, Barracuda518. A little extra food, especially worms, and they'll fatten right up. :D They are among my favorites because of their lovely color.

I bought four C. narcissus at my lfs this week and added them to the bathroom tank with the brochis. While they are nowhere near as big, I think they are large enough not to be intimidated by them. Pictures will be coming soon, if all goes well.

Thanks. Ive had them for about a year and half now. I have lost 2 of the original 7 and I didnt even know until today.

C. narcissus. Very nice. I havent seen an ounce of aggression out of my Brochis, so they should do well with them. They are gentle giants. I have one thats got to be 4.5" Its quite a site. They need more space to swim I think. They love to sit at the front of the tank and stare at me  when they arent destroying my once nice looking planted tank  :fun:

Those multis are very nice. I like watching them too. They are in the bathroom. I just put a new bulb in--some odd ultraviolet. Mixed with a grow light it gives an interesting color to the tank--a bit greenish pink. They are indeed gentle giants.

Looking foreward to the spawn diary. :D

Nice Weitzmani's there Barracuda

Looks like you have a lovely fat female there (are they as easy to sex as the C. Aenues?) Sorry to hear about your losses though

Look forward to spawning diaries as JS says and loads of pics too.

:D

So everybody's jumping on the Brochis bandwagon, huh? I love starting trends. :p Had to upgrade the model too, no B. splendens for anyone, nooooo, B. multiradiatus. They are gentle, a bit on the stupid side, though. They excel at getting stuck and actually swim toward a falling piece of wood rather than away. Even my inbred platies have more sense. Thank goodness they are not in an open-top, I'm sure Buckwheat, my cat, would enjoy the fresh catfish for dinner. "Oh, food fell on my head. Ooooo, let me swim up, up, up toward the black paw....No wait, falling wood, let me get under it and die!" :hyper:

You got to love them, though. Their aparent stupidity will not stop me from purchasing more. Perhaps the multis are smarter, but I doubt it.

Hey now! I got mine before they did

B. splendens are very nice. Ive been keeping them for about 2 years now. By the looks of Buckwheat, he may need about 10 fresh catfish

Now I have all 3 species of Brochis :D
